If you want a factory-integrated, OEM replacement step for your Ford F-250, F-350, or F-450 that disappears when not in use, choose Tomanic 75313-01A; if you need a universal, heavy-duty climbing aid for any truck, SUV, or RV with tires between 8 and 13 inches wide, choose Gedlex Tire Step.
For food delivery drivers navigating tight urban alleys or rural farm roads, the choice between these two pieces of equipment isn't just about getting up to a roof rack—it is about matching the tool to the vehicle's architecture and the frequency of your climbs. The Tomanic unit is a permanent fixture designed specifically for the rear bumper corner of specific Ford trucks, while the Gedlex solution is a portable accessory that clamps onto almost any tire. One is built for stealth and integration; the other is built for brute strength and versatility. Understanding where each product shines is critical before you commit to one over the other.
• Tomanic 75313-01A: Its biggest strength is the seamless, OEM-style fit for Ford F-Series trucks (2017-2023) with a flush, retractable design that avoids scratching paint. Its trade-off is strict incompatibility with F450 models equipped with a vibration damper and a lack of universality across other brands.
• Gedlex Tire Step: Its biggest strength is its massive 350-pound load capacity and adjustable design that fits any tire width from 8 to 13 inches on trucks, SUVs, or RVs. Its trade-off is its bulky, external nature requiring manual deployment and storage every time it is not in use.
• Who picks Tomanic: Drivers who own a compatible Ford pickup and want a step that looks like it came from the factory, stays out of the way, and requires zero daily setup.
• Who picks Gedlex: Drivers who need a high-capacity, universal step for multiple vehicles or those whose trucks do not have a dedicated bumper-mounted step system.
The Tomanic 75313-01A is engineered for a very specific audience: owners of Ford F-250, F-350, and F-450 pickups manufactured between 2017 and 2023 who are tired of reaching up to their bed or tailgate without a solid foothold. This is not a clamp-on accessory; it is a direct replacement for the original factory part, number 75313-01A. If your current bumper step is broken or missing, this unit integrates seamlessly into the existing structure. You simply push down with your foot, and the step flips out; a light touch pushes it back into the retracted position.
What makes this unit particularly compelling for daily users is its material composition. The brackets are made of aluminum, which resists rust and corrosion—a vital feature for anyone living in areas with road salt or heavy rain. The pedal itself is constructed from robust PPA plastic, a material chosen specifically for its resistance to fatigue and impact. This means the step can handle repeated heavy loads without cracking or bending over time, even under challenging conditions. The black finish ensures it blends perfectly with the truck's aesthetic, maintaining the clean lines of the vehicle.

However, this product has a critical limitation that buyers must respect before purchasing. While it fits the F-250 and F-350 without issue, it will not work on an F-450 if that specific truck has a vibration damper installed. In those cases, the geometry of the bumper interferes with the step's mounting points. Additionally, because it is designed strictly for the Ford F-Series, it offers no utility for owners of Chevrolet, Ram, or Toyota trucks. It also includes five bonus reflective stickers, which adds a layer of safety for night-time loading but does not replace the need for proper lighting. If you drive a Ford and want a "set it and forget it" solution, this is the path. If you drive anything else, or if your F-450 has that damper, you need to look elsewhere.
The Gedlex Tire Step serves a completely different purpose. It is a heavy-duty, folding tire step designed for maximum versatility rather than vehicle-specific integration. This unit is ideal for owners of trucks, SUVs, and RVs who need to access high roofs, cargo racks, or beds but do not have a built-in bumper step. The key here is the universality. As long as your vehicle has tires ranging from 8 to 13 inches in width, this step clamps on securely. It is not limited to a single brand or model year, making it a practical choice for fleets, multi-vehicle households, or those who frequently switch between different rigs.
Durability is the standout feature of the Gedlex design. This is a significant weight class compared to many lighter-duty alternatives. The platform features a non-slip sawtooth texture, which provides excellent traction for boots, especially when wet or muddy. For food delivery drivers or contractors who might be carrying heavy tools, boxes, or equipment, this stability is non-negotiable. Furthermore, the design includes rubber screws on the side of the tires to prevent scratching the rubber during installation, and an extra crossbar is added to increase the stability of the bracket. Reflective warning tape is integrated into the surface, ensuring the step is highly visible in low-light conditions.
The trade-off lies in the user experience regarding convenience. Unlike the Tomanic, which retracts automatically, the Gedlex is a manual process. You must unfold the step, lock it in place, and ensure it is properly seated on the tire. When you are done, you must fold it back up and secure the locking bracket with the included lanyard so it doesn't drag along the road. However, for someone who needs to climb into a high-roof van or a large semi-truck, the ability to deploy a 350-pound rated step instantly is worth the extra effort. It is a rugged, no-frills tool for people who prioritize load-bearing capacity and adaptability over sleek aesthetics.

I would choose the Tomanic 75313-01A if I were driving a compatible Ford F-Series truck, primarily because the integration is superior. Having a step that folds away automatically saves wear and tear on my vehicle and keeps the rear end looking clean. It feels like a permanent part of the truck rather than an add-on. However, if I were working as a food delivery driver using a generic box truck or an older SUV that doesn't have a factory step, I would immediately grab the Gedlex Tire Step. Its 350-pound capacity and ability to clamp onto almost any tire make it the safer, more reliable choice for a mobile worker who needs to access cargo quickly without worrying about vehicle compatibility. For the specific scenario of food delivery, where speed and reliability on various vehicles matter most, the Gedlex offers the necessary flexibility that a fixed bumper step cannot provide.
The Tomanic 75313-01A is built with durable PPA plastic and aluminum brackets for standard daily use but does not list a specific pound capacity in its data sheet.

No, the Tomanic 75313-01A is explicitly incompatible with F-450 models when a vibration damper is installed. You would need to check if your specific truck configuration allows for this mount.
