MR Enabler is a Mixed Reality application that takes place inside the Assist-IoT ecosystem.
ASSIST-IoT is a EU H2020 ICT-56-2020 funded research project which aims at design, implementation and validation of an open, decentralized reference architecture, associated components (called enablers), services and tools, to assist human-centric applications in multiple verticals. ASSIST-IoT will design, implement and validate, in a realistic, measurable, and replicable way, a unified innovative multi-plane (semi-)autonomous decentralized edge-cloud reference architecture, supplemented by cross-cutting digital enablers. The architecture will support continuous integration and long-term sustainability of domain-agnostic, interoperable, self-* capable, intelligent, distributed, scalable, secure and trustworthy IoT ecosystems. In ASSIST-IoT there is continuous assessment and verification of the project results in three pilots, representing: (i) Port Automation, (ii) Smart Safety of Workers and (iii) Cohesive Vehicle Monitoring and Diagnostics.
My part inside the Assist-IoT project was to develop the MR enabler, a Mixed Reality application that was connected with the rest of the enablers of the project. The MR enabler was part of the Pilot 2, "Smart Safety of Workers", which took place at a construction site. The application would be used by the Health and Safety Office of the site and would assist him/her in monitoring the health condition of the workers. The goal was to design and develop the MR application with specific functionalities: i) enhanced visualizations for better understanding of potential dangers and safety procedures; ii) real-time data monitoring for proactive monitoring, early hazard detection, and timely interventions; iii) documentation and reporting for simplifying incident reporting and safety inspections; and iv) collection of safety performance analytics for gaining insights on risk factors and improving overall safety.
The MR-enabler was made with Unity 2019.4 LTS and MRTK2 and targeted HoloLens2 devices. You can find the official documentation of the MR enabler at the following link:
