Tolga Aydinliyim is an Associate Professor of Operations and Decision Analytics at the Zicklin School of Business, Baruch College, CUNY. He has served as the founding coordinator of the Operations and Decision Analytics area (since 2020) and the Management area (2018-2020) of the Zicklin PhD Program in Business, as well as the founding coordinator (2015-2021) of the OMEGA Research Seminar series. He teaches operations and supply chain management as well as predictive and decision analytics at all undergraduate and graduate levels including AI-Assisted Healthcare Analytics and Quality in the Zicklin Executive MBA Program.
Previously, he was an Assistant Professor of Decision Sciences at the Lundquist College of Business, University of Oregon, where he was the founding coordinator of the Operations and Business Analytics PhD concentration. He earned a PhD in Operations Research from Case Western Reserve University, and a BS in Industrial Engineering with a minor in Economics from the Middle East Technical University, Turkey.
In his research, Professor Aydinliyim (i) develops innovative resource allocation mechanisms in supply chains and healthcare, and (ii) studies operational implications of consumer behavior in retailing. His research papers appeared in premier operations management and analytics journals such as Management Science, Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, Production and Operations Management, Decision Sciences Journal, and European Journal of Operational Research. His editorial appointments include Department Editor, Decision Sciences Journal (2026-present); Associate Editor, Decision Sciences Journal (2019-2025); and Associate Editor, OMEGA (2025-present).
KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Founded the Operations and Decision Analytics (ODA) PhD concentration at Baruch College in 2020, and have coordinated it since then. First cohort (Fall 2021 intake) produced two tenure-track academic placements including my advisee, currently an Assistant Professor at University of North Carolina Wilmington.
Led the ODA area efforts in 2020 to take on the delivery of Foundations of Predictive Analytics and Decision Modeling, a new required undergraduate course serving 3,500 students a year. Established the budgeting model for funding ODA PhD students and have trained all cohorts since 2021, who now teach more than a 1,000 students a year.
Coordinated the school-wide course scheduling operations at Zicklin to manage over 40,000 seats serving nearly 15,000 students per semester. Increased seated enrollments by 15% over two years, thus reducing students’ average time-to-degree by over a half year and generating more than $100m in economic value for Baruch graduates.
Developed several new courses including AI-Assisted Healthcare Analytics and Quality for Zicklin EMBA in Healthcare Administration (EMBA-HCA), AI-Assisted Inventory Analytics for Zicklin MS in Business Analytics, and Managing Business Processes for Zicklin MBA. Co-authored an article with EMBA-HCA students published in the AI in Healthcare Special Issue of the Health Management, Policy, and Innovation Journal.
Initiated the OMEGA Research Seminar Series at Zicklin in 2015, and coordinated it until 2021 hosting over 80 speakers.
Founded the Decision Sciences PhD concentration at University of Oregon in 2010, and coordinated it until 2013. Program produced several tenure-track academic placements including my co-advisee, currently an Associate Professor at Bentley University.
Took conference leadership roles including organization of the 2027 POMS Conference and the 2023 & 2024 DSI Conferences.
Took conference track chair roles including at the 2016, 2023, 2025, 2026 POMS Conferences and the 2022 DSI Conference.
