Your speech should be a persuasive speech. This means you are trying to persuade the audience to agree about your chosen topic.
Topic Choice
Choose a persuasive topic of interest to you and the audience. Brainstorm main points and some examples. Set up a schedule of deadlines.
Outline of Ideas
Write a rough outline to show organization of ideas. Include reasons and examples for your opinion.
First Draft
Write your own words to persuade the audience about your opinion. Organize ideas with an introduction, clear purpose for communication, main points, and conclusion. Give clear examples and details to support your opinion. Check the truthfulness of your language and ideas. Explain new words and concepts for the audience and use language they can understand. Remember the 6-minute time limit when writing.
Research for Support
Find facts, statistics, or expert opinion to support your ideas. Decide how to write the information into your second draft.
Second Draft
Introduce the topic in a way that catches the audience’s attention. Rewrite text to fix grammar errors or language that is confusing. Check the flow and unity of ideas so they lead to logical conclusions and are tied together well.
Delivery and Practice
Practice in order to remember your speech without reading everything. Use note cards to help you speak naturally and comfortably. Practice eye contact, posture, facial expressions, gestures, and voice volume. Practice words that are hard to pronounce and use your voice as an instrument to show the flow of speech. Decide the best rate of speech, use of pauses, and linking of words in a natural way. Remember the time limit.
