Drawings of C.M. Kosemen
My first object for this exhibition is a collection of paintings by C.M. Kosemen. These drawings show creatures, which look like dinosaurs, but in reality, artist just drew skeletons of modern animals, but without different details which are not traceable by having only skeleton of an animal. The idea of these paintings was to show to common public, that dinosaurs can look way different from what is believed, because there are many implications when reconstructing animal phenotype from the past. I’ve personally seen these drawings first time when we had a TOK class at my school.
This object is linked to the prompt because it is supported by artist’s idea to show the world that we might be wrong in the current look of dinosaurs. This, in turn, leads to change of established beliefs, since we now doubt the commonly accepted facts of how dinosaurs looked like.
This object has been included in the exhibition, because it shows how beliefs can be changed if new knowledge is shown and produced. In this example, drawings of C.M. Kosemen, which look like some animals from the past, are actually just modern ones drawn based on their skeleton.
