I welcome students who want to study in technology & intellectual property management and to publish results in academic journals.
The PhD program, where I belong, does not provide a full-English PhD program. All applicants must have very high proficiency in Japanese (ideally, equivalent to N1 level, at least N2 level at the time of enrollment).
I can supervise master's and doctoral students in the Researcher Training Program at the Graduate School of Business Administration at Hitotsubashi University (HUB). My expertise and research interests are in technology and intellectual property management (i.e., organizational actions to enhance the performance of technology/design development, as well as strategic inter-organizational relationships stemming from the strategic use of patents/copyrights/exclusive data). If you are interested in studying technology or intellectual property management under my supervision, please reach out to me via e-mail (t-koba [at symbol] iir.hit-u.ac.jp) in advance.
Students under my supervision are requested to join a weekly research seminar to develop their academic research capability and original research papers. If you want to join my research seminar to receive mentoring, please read the instructions provided by the syllabus system (see CELS at Hitotsubashi University).
HUB emphasizes academic research activities. I strongly advise all prospective applicants to receive basic academic research training in their current institution before joining HUB. Also, HUB requests high Japanese writing/speaking skills. We have full-English PhD degree programs in the School of International Corporate Strategy, but I do not teach there. All applicants who intend to receive my supervision must have qualified Japanese language skills.
Please note that I do not employ any research students ("research students" mean students who are in preparation for entrance to master's or PhD courses) without strong recommendations from their current supervisors.
