Between 7 and 11 november 2022, the 2nd LTTA-students of our project took place in Iskenedun, Turkey, with the participation of the Turkish school comunity and 17 students and 9 teachers from the Italian, Latvian, Portuguese and Romanian schools.
Cultural day spent in Cappadocia, magical place of hot air balloons and the magnificent and magical rock structures known as "fairy chimneys", tall cone-shaped rock formations. Near Nevsehir we attended two interesting workshops: one on onyx, a precious rock and a very valuable feature of this region, and another about the art of Turkish ceramics. We visited villages and felt "in loco" the richness of cultural diversity, in a region with wonderful customs and traditions. It was a day full of culture!Â
The day started with a visit to the City Hall of Iskenderun. We were received by the president of the municipality, who was very satisfied with the scope of our project. The conversation between all was very pleasant and the Mayor was very satisfied with our Erasmus project. He said that these kind of projects are very important for all local communities. After lunch, the highlight activity of the day: the students painted a mural on one of the walls of the school, in a group activity of collaborative work between students. Then, we went to visit the Iskenderun Sea Museum, where interesting information about Turkish history was given. The day ended with a walk along the city's waterfront and a visit to the beautiful Mosque of Iskenderun. It was a fantastic day!
Another day of intense multiculturalism and where it was possible to experience the richness of Turkey's culture and traditions. We started the day with an important ritual for the Turkish people: on the 10th of November, at 9.05 am, the country stops completely for 2 minutes to honor the founder of the Republic of Turkey, Ataturk. This is a ceremony full of meaning and unifying of the Turkish people. Then, we went to the city of Antakia where we visited Hatay Archeology Museum, which describes in great detail the archaeological history of Turkey from the earliest times, especially the Roman and Byzantine eras. This was followed by a visit to one of the most important places in the region and which reflects the multiculturalism prevailing here: a visit to one of the oldest churches in Christianity, the Church St. Peter's, where St. Peter celebrated his first religious ceremony. After lunch, we went to the most famous Mosque of Antakya and after that important visit, we had another visit that allowed us to feel the Turkish culture, with a visit to the Grand Bazaar of Antakya, with its more than 3 kms of tortuous labyrinths where street vendors, tourists and locals gather. It was another fantastic day full of multiculturalism.Â
Last day of another great Erasmus experience. Today we had two interesting workshops related to the arts of tile and fabric painting, called Ebru. The artistic vein was explored and the students gave wings to their imagination! We also went to Iskenderun Bazaar and the day ended with a big farewell party, where each country performed a song and dance of their choice. The certificates ceremony followed and, of course, a lot of emotion and tears in the farewell! Wonderful!!!
