The Workshopping Process...
We wanted to bring Shakespeare shows to Chicago and make it accessible, fun, and BOOZY.
Our actors knew from day one that drinking was optional, but that whimsy and chaos must be MANDATORY. Therefore, we were charged with the task of bringing an improvisational element to the show. Actors work with a script, and for the most part the goal is to stick to it.
However, we want the audience to have fun and to enjoy the material, which can be hard to do for two reasons. 1) It's Elizabethan text, which is already challenging for modern audiences. 2) The actors are drunk.
So we had a lot of fun playing with when lines could be funny enough to deviate slightly from; as long as we got the point, and the audience gets a laugh!
Here you'll see pictures from TDONTD's first ever rehearsal, where you can find our OG Actors working through the blueprint show: Shakespeare's Hamlet!
Clearly our players had a lot of fun!
See if you can recognize any of our OG's from the shows you've attended, and be sure to check our Next Show page and instagram for announcements to catch our next one!
