Tobias Herbst

I am an economist at the Directorate General Financial Stability of Deutsche Bundesbank and a research consultant at the Directorate General Macroprudential Policy and Financial Stability of the European Central Bank. I obtained my Ph.D. (Dr. rer. pol.) from the Bonn Graduate School of Economics at the University of Bonn.

I am equally passionate about conducting in-depth research projects and contributing to policies that enhance public welfare. I firmly believe that these activities can be mutually beneficial.

My research interests are financial economics, monetary economics, and their intersection. I leverage granular microdata for empirical analyses that answer questions of macroeconomic relevance.

My policy work currently focuses on mitigating financial stability risks from commercial real estate (CRE) markets. If you are a Ph.D. or Master's student and are interested in our work, apply for an internship with our team at Deutsche Bundesbank.
