I received my undergraduate degree (the German diploma) in physics in 1999 from the University of Münster, with a thesis on supersymmetric Ward identities in the group of Professor Gernot Münster. I was then a Rhodes Scholar at the University of Oxford and Balliol College, where I worked on topics related to the Minority Game with Professor David Sherrington. I completed my DPhil in theoretical physics in 2004. Subsequently I moved to the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Trieste, Italy as a postdoc, and then took up a permanent position at the University of Manchester, UK (first as a Research Councils UK Research Fellow, then I got promoted through the ranks, Senior Lecturer, Reader, Professor). Since 2019 I have been based at IFISC in Palma de Mallorca.

Other
I once met Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh.
I really like Dutch liquorice. I buy some from this van here whenever I am in my home town Münster.
I was born with d-transposition of the great arteries, and had heart surgery as a child. If you are a fellow adult with congenital heart disease, feel free to get in touch.
