In the video, I quickly demo and run down the technical features of my 1st prototype.
I typically don't like to waste resources, especially permanent ones like plastic, so I sought out to leverage the maker spirit and build a way to personally recycle wasted 3D prints, spooling them back into filament.

With the mechanical design modeled like the ARTME3D, this extruder is part of a 2-step process of shredding old parts and extruding them into recycled 3D printer filament.

Figured I could leverage senior design to purchase the parts and set the time to design and manufacture while receive course credits... and so I did!
However, because the relevant capstone class I proposed this project for is for Electrical Engineering, the shredding portion was deemed "too ME focused" aka out of scope.
To shred my prints, I looked into purchasing a cheap coffee bean blender, which surprisingly performed well, given some teadious operations.

It was required to include a custom PCB in the final design, therefore I designed this board with a STM32F44 microcontroller, after prototyping with a Nucleo dev board.

- ADCs for thermistors
- I2C for the LCD and
- 3 PWM signals for the heating elements and the steppermotors.
The code was written in the STM32 Cube IDE using C++, and organized as a finite state machine, following the logic in the diagram below.
