Puppy Socialization Parties - for canines that still have their "puppy teeth" (under 5 mo old). This program is a "Psychological Vaccination" to PREVENT adult behavior issues. This class "rotates" constantly, so puppies can join at any time. NOTE: The critical socialization brain development period decreases after 3 mo of age. Many adult behavior problems such as fearfulness and aggression are preventable if following our socialization program, starting at 8 weeks of age. Requirements are one vaccination, and an exam to rule out any contagious disease. (Vaccination can occur 10 minutes before class.)
Adult On-Leash Training - for dogs 5 months or older to learn the basics of Come, Sit, Down, Stay, Leash-walking, and more. These are 6 week sessions each, and can be repeated if desired, then move on to an "Intermediate" level class.
Canine Good Citizen - for Adult On-Leash Training graduates dogs to become certified by the AKC as "Good Citizens" - then have more privileges in society. These classes build on the basics to prepare the dog to become a AKC Certified Canine Good Citizen. The actual testing is optional and done outside Hannah by independently paid CGC Certification Evaluators.
Dog Class Manners for each 50 minute Class:
Hannah has two locations (Portland and Tigard) and once enrolled, the dog comes to the same location (inside the hospital) for every class.
Bring the dog with a neck collar and 6 foot leash (not a harness or extendable lead). In addition, head halters and front clip harnesses are encouraged.
Arrive 30 min early and WALK the dog in the neighborhood to eliminate if needed and release excess energy. (Bring poop bags!)
Bring a hungry dog and have that dog's special treats with you to reward awesome behaviors. (e.g. small bits of chicken, hot dog, or cheese)
Wait in the lobby or outside. Allow the previous class to exit first, then when trainer calls, everyone enters training room within 5 minutes.
If arriving more than 10 minutes late (after start time), go home and come next time. (Late arrivals are too disruptive to others in the class.)
If absent for a FIRST class in any adult on-leash session, please call Hannah and ask for "Behavior Triage" to reschedule your first training session.
If unable to attend, give 24 hour cancellation notice to allow someone else that slot. Call 360-816-8000.
Naturally, the first expectation is that if you enroll in a class that you will attend all 6 sessions. You can repeat a 6-week class an unlimited number of times, based on availability.
No-Shows - Any dog that does not attend without the member calling first will be dropped from that class after two no show events. Then call Hannah and our Triage Tech can enroll you into another class that fits your schedule. Note that this situation deprives other Hannah Members of that training slot.
Unable to attend - If something comes up at the last minute, call your trainer's Hannah phone number and leave a message.
Rescheduling MORE than 24 hours before a class session. This allows for people on a waiting list to have a chance to attend.
Rescheduling LESS than 24 hours before a class session. Last minute rescheduling is courteous, but not ideal. If done 3 or more times in any class session, the dog is dropped.
Dropping a class. This means dropping out of a class. Call the Trainer's Hannah Phone to drop. Call Hannah for a Triage Appointment when ready to enroll again.
