In order to protect critical firefly habitat and provide optimum visitor experience, tickets are required to enter the park during for this event. There will be 130 vehicle passes available for each evening of the event. Vehicle passes for this event will be distributed by lottery hosted at www.recreation.gov/ticket/facility/300008. Lottery entries can be made only during dates listed below and will not be accepted prior to the lottery opening or after it has closed. Applications are limited to one per household. Issued passes are non-transferable and only valid for the date issued. All applicants are charged a non-refundable $1 service fee upon lottery entry. Those applicants selected to receive a pass will be charged the remaining event fee of $24 in order to secure their event pass. All applicants will be notified whether successful or unsuccessful. A young Hotaru Takegawa got lost in the forest during one of her summer visits to her grandfather's home, and as she began to cry, Gin found her. Hotaru initially thought he was a human, so she stopped crying and ran towards him. But without any explained reason, he avoided her. Gin told her that he is a spirit, loosely tied to the living Earth through a spell casted by the Mountain God of the Forest. Furthermore, if he ever touched a human, the spell would break and he would disappear.
Another few summers passed, and Hotaru arrived at the forest with her high school uniform, showing again her growth. This summer though, Gin told Hotaru about his past, about how he was actually once a human. But after his parents abandoned him as a child in the forest, the mountain spirits took him up, later casting upon him a spell so that he could live on. Upon hearing this, Hotaru confessed how she would like to stay with Gin more once she becomes independent, as she wanted to stay with him for not just the summer, but also the fall, the winter and the spring, in other words, all year round.
Gin then invited Hotaru to the youkai festival inside the forest, unlike before where he only ever mentioned it. At the festival, as noted by Hotaru, the festival grounds looked just like a human festival would, with food stalls, people in festive nature and lanterns alight. Gin suggested tying their hands together with a sash to prevent themselves from getting lost from each other.
As Gin slowly disappeared, he asked Hotaru to come into his arms, as he finally could touch Hotaru in his final moments. As she embraced him in his final moments, he confessed his love to her, which she replied with a mutual confession. After Gin had disappeared, the other forest spirits appeared, thanking Hotaru for being there for Gin. Although they wished for him to keep living with them forever, they knew that deep inside Gin, he wanted to touch a human.
This movie tells the tale of a young girl who meets a mysterious boy wearing a mask after getting lost in the forest of the mountain god where spirits thrive. After helping her find her way out of the forest, the young girl promises to come back the next day to thank him, and eventually, everyday.
Summary: One summer a girl named Hotaru Takegawa was lost in the forest of the mountain god. She was very small, very alone and so very scared. But then one of the spirits appeared and kindly led her to the exit. They became friends, and each summer Hotaru would return and spend her days with her new friend. The Pennsylvania Synchronous Firefly Season lasts from the summer solstice into the second week of July, with annual mating displays of over fifteen different species of firefly in the Allegheny National Forest. The views of the Synchronous firefly and the unique "Chinese Lantern" firefly along the Tionesta Creek are mesmerizing. The P. Carolinus firefly is unique in that its flash patterns are in sync with each other, so they appear to be a string of Christmas lights hanging in the forest. Synchronous species of fireflies are rare, and can only be seen in a handful of places throughout the world. The P. Carolinus breed of Synchronous firefly was only recently discovered in the Allegheny National Forest in 2012 by a team of biologists.
The story is very simple, almost refreshingly so compared to the convoluted mess that sometimes invades blockbuster flicks. For just a couple of weeks a year, the enchanting blue ghost fireflies (Phausis reticulate) make their appearance in several valley areas near Asheville. They are different from other fireflies since their light stays on constantly and they fly just above the forest floor. It's a romantic story! According to Brevard College Professor Dr. Jennifer Frick-Ruppert, "the males are small with black elytra and brownish wings, about 1/4-inch in length and delicate. Females are flightless and grub-like. They do not flash. Instead, they glow constantly with dim bluish-white light, drifting silently just inches off the ground. With hundreds of thousands of these fireflies meandering aglow over the dark forest floor, the ground itself seems eerily adrift."
Northwest Pennsylvania holds a secret; it is a firefly wonderland. The deciduous woodlands and watersheds on the Allegheny National Forest (ANF) offer some of the best locations to experience the magical showing of bioluminescence that defines summer evenings in the Appalachians.
To better raise awareness to the synchronous firefly, as well as other species found within the ANF, a small group of local residents, spearheaded by the owners of the Black Caddis Ranch, celebrated the discovery by forming the PA Firefly Festival, which held its first annual event in 2013. It features firefly exhibits, live music, food, and, you guessed it, guided firefly walks to see the synchronous fireflies and other species along Tionesta Creek. The Forest Service has been an annual exhibitor at the Festival since its inception.
With firefly fever reaching ever-increasing heights, public education is key to protecting the synchronous firefly and their habitat because the ANF is currently the only location within the National Forests with confirmed populations of this fascinating beetle.
Additionally, certain species of fireflies are vulnerable to light pollution and other forms of artificial light, especially the synchronous. Worldwide there is evidence that some firefly species are on the decline due to habitat loss and outdoor light pollution. Because they evolved to communicate in total darkness, this artificial light hurts their ability to find a mate.

He says that no normal light can do, and only a glow of the brightest intensity will work.[1] He describes the firefly to Link, saying that its light would do, and asks him to find one at Forest Haven.[2]
Link can find the Forest Firefly flying around outside of Hollo's Forest Potion Shop. He can capture it in a Bottle.[3] When he brings it back to Lenzo, he is amazed.[4] He congratulates Link by placing the firefly inside of his Picto Box, transforming it into the Deluxe Picto Box, which can take colored pictures.[5][6]

In this region of the country, we may find Photinus Palaciosi fireflies. This particular type of firefly can sync with one another, creating a nighttime show that draws the attention of countless travelers. This group is distinguished because they carry out their reproduction throughout May through July (high humidity season). According to Tania Lpez, a doctoral candidate specializing in fireflies, these insects appear in those months since they finish their life cycles as larvae and pupae and fly off as adults. The abundance of resources and the high humidity level during this season allow the eggs to stay warm.
Due to the cold, humid temperature of the forest, Amecameca has become an ideal location for fireflies. Up to 240,000 fireflies can be seen per acre along the Firefly Route, including Rancho del Valle, Esmeralda Forest, and Chalma Ecotourism. Locals in the area are also committed to safeguarding the ecosystem and insects.
