St. Thérèse of Lisieux, often known as Therese the Little Flower, was born on January 2, 1873. In 1888 at the age of 15, she became a French Catholic nun and joined her two elder sisters in the Carmelite Community of Liseux. Despite her frail and poor health, Therese continued to praise the mercy and love of God. Growing up in an affectionate home, she understood that God was truly a Father that loved her and all of His other children. Before her death on September 30, 1897 from tuberculosis, Therese was faced with a challenge of doubt about the existence of God. She continued to keep her faith and believe in the Lord until her passing. Therese was a highly influential model of sanctity for Catholics all around the world because of her simplistic approach to the spiritual life. She was canonized and become a saint on May 17, 1925 by Pope Pius XI.
Đoàn Têrêsa Hài Đồng (THĐ) was founded in 1999 and based on our patron St. Therese of Lisieux. THĐ is under the Vietnamese Eucharistic Youth Movement (VEYM) and follows their two main purposes:
To educate and train youths in becoming a better person as well as an excellent Christian.
To organize and to guide all youths in spreading the Good News of the Gospel and to actively be involved in working for the good of society through charitable services and helping others.
Over the past 20+ years since THĐ was established, many youths and leaders have grown spiritually through retreats, camps, and various community services. All of these experiences encompass the ideal that we accept Jesus Christ as the source of spiritual life.
