Open tee times between 3-6 PM for 9 holes each Tuesday. If you need to play outside of these times, you need to send an email to stoneleighmensleague@gmail.com. Once we receive the request with the information, we can make the decision.
Alternate front and back 9 each week
Play whenever you want during the designated times
The Men's League is designed to be played by Stoneleigh members. If there are non-members that wish to participate on a non-regular basis, that is fine. They will be subject to the same rules as defined here. Non-members will not be eligible for the Shootout but are eligible for the weekly winnings.
There must be at least one other person in your group also playing in TNML to attest to your score
Individual play each week; no need to try and find a partner, just a marker
Format is Stableford quota (see below)
Weekly and season standings announced over email and web page
All putts must be holed out; no gimmies
Season-long race to the Shootout:
We will be taking off the week of July 4th
Must play and turn in scorecards for 60% of the season (14 nights) to be eligible; you are not able to just buy your way into a week that you don't play
The number of weeks will be adjusted to account for weeks impacted by the weather if needed
12 best aggregate scores throughout the season are eligible for the Shootout
Weekly payouts do not affect the points race
League will begin on April 11th, 2023, and play will be from the front 9. Play will alternate from front to back each week. If we miss a week, for any reason, we will continue to play from the side that is next in the rotation. For example, we get rained out on April 11; then, we will play the Front 9 on April 18.
There must be a minimum of 4 players for the week to have a payout and scores to count toward the Shootout. If individuals have paid and there were not 4 players for the week, all money will be refunded.
Play will be from the blue tees unless you qualify for the 80+ rule, handicap + age >= 80. If you are eligible for the 80+ rule, it is the player's responsibility to let the committee know before your first round. Once you have chosen your tee box, you will be required to play that tee box for the entirety of the year. Exceptions will only be allowed if your 80+ status changes.
The Men's League will follow the standard rules of golf for inclement weather
If you are out playing and you get caught in the rain, you are required to continue to play
If you choose to leave during the middle of your round, you forfeit your entry fee for the week
Any inclement weather that necessitates a course closure of more than 1 hour will result in the cancellation of that day's event unless there are a minimum of 4 players that were able to complete the round
Severe rain causing flooding on parts of the course
Lightning in close proximity
If you are unsure about the weather, take your rain gear with you. The course will make the final determination on course closures.
Individual play, Stableford scoring with quota
Stableford Scale:
-1.5 points Triple Bogey or worse
-1 point Double Bogey
+1 point Bogey
+2 points Par
+3 points Birdie
+5 points Eagle
Quota is based on 18 pts (which would be 9 pars)
For example - for calculation purposes, a + handicap shows up as a "-".
Example 1: Handicap for 9 holes is 10, Member quota is 8, member scores 10 points. Total points, 2
10 (Points scored) - 8 (Quota for 9 holes (18) - Individual quota (10)) = 2 points for the round
Example 2: Handicap for 9 holes is 1, Member quota is 17, member scores 15 points. Total points, -2
15 (Points scored) - 17 (Quota for 9 holes (18) - Individual quota (1)) = -2 points for the round
Example 3: Handicap for 9 holes is +2, Member quota is 20, member scores 19 points. Total points, -1
19 (Points scored) - 20 (Quota for 9 holes (18) - Individual quota (-2)) = -1 points for the round
Example 1, Course Handicap 10 is the winner with 2 points
No need to worry about dots on the scorecard because handicaps are baked in. The best points total each week is the winner.
If your round is cut short due to weather or loss of light, you will need to follow the USGA guidelines for posting
A round is considered complete if you have completed 7 holes
For any holes that you have not played, you will record a score of net par as per the USGA handicapping rules
In the Golf Genius app, you will post your actual score, NOT YOUR ADJUSTED SCORE. The app will take care of all adjustments.
Handicaps
Each player will have a Men's League handicap that may differ from their GHIN handicap
Just like GHIN, if you had a TNML handicap in 2022, we will start with that as your 2023 handicap. It will not reset for the 2023 season.
Handicaps will be calculated weekly from their Men's League scores
Calculations will begin after the player has played 2 rounds of a side. Before the 2 played rounds per side, handicaps will be pulled from GHIN on the day of play.
If a player does not have a published handicap, they will play as a 0
The Men's League committee reserves the right to adjust an individual's handicap at any time
All scoring for TNML will be handled by Golf Genius provided by the club. You must check into the shop to get each week's code. One person in your group will be required to use the Golf Genius application to enter your scores. Click below from your phone to download the Golf Genius app.
The entry fee is $15 electronic cash, $11.25 (75%) goes into that week’s prize money. The other $3.75 (25%) goes into the season-end shootout.
Payments into the pool and out to winners is done via electronic means, PayPal or Venmo
Venmo account: @DougFidler
PayPal account: @DougFidler. Ensure that your payment is Friends and Family or the payment is reduced.
Payout 25% of the weekly field entries
Example: 10 guys play, 3 get paid. 20 guys play, 6 get paid
Only pay for the current week; this helps with the bookkeeping
Payments must be made before teeing off
It is not the league's responsibility to chase you down for payment each week. If you have not paid by 5 PM on Wednesday, you will not be considered for that week's play, and it will not count for the end-of-year shootout. Since each player must play with someone else participating in the weekly competition, if your round does not count, you may impact your playing partner. If you played with only one person in your group, they would also be removed from the week.
