African Law Students Association
The African Law Students Association (ALSA) at Thurgood Marshall School of Law is committed to advancing the academic, social, and professional growth of all law students while celebrating the richness of African and diasporic cultures. ALSA is an inclusive organization — membership is open to everyone, regardless of African ancestry.
Our mission is to create a welcoming community where students can connect, learn, and engage with issues affecting Africa and the global Black diaspora. Through cultural programming, academic support, professional development, and community engagement, ALSA empowers members to build meaningful connections, develop leadership skills, and leave a legacy of excellence within and beyond the law school.
We also seek to promote academic excellence, professional development, and cultural awareness within the legal field. ALSA provides a platform for students to engage in meaningful dialogue, network with practicing attorneys, and advocate for issues that matter to the African diaspora. From panel discussions and mentorship programs to cultural celebrations, ALSA enriches the law school experience and equips future leaders in the legal profession.
“The ends you serve that are selfish will take you no further than yourself but the ends you serve that are for all, in common, will take you into eternity.”
