Teacher Leader, Noyce Fellow, AP Environmental Science Instructor, Science Department Chair, Westbury High School, HISD
I am a Rice University R STEM Texas Leadership Initiative for Inquiry Science Teaching (TLIIST) Fellow and a Teacher Leader.
TLIIST is a collaboration between Rice University, Houston ISD (HISD), Houston Community College (HCC), the Science Teachers Association of Texas (STAT) and the University of Houston. TLIIST provides five years of professional development in science pedagogical knowledge, leadership training, and mentoring opportunities with the goal of creating inquiry-based learning experiences and environments that will improve the quality of science teaching and learning in high-needs schools in the Greater Houston area.
My philosophy of teaching is based on three principles. First, all students can learn! All students may not be able to learn astrophysics, but all students can learn and be successful in an effective classroom. Second, students learn in more ways than I know how to teach. This fuels my strong desire to learn and implement research-based instructional and technological infused strategies that facilitates positive student outcomes. Third, the best teachers are the best learners. I am diligent in applying new strategies and skills effectively in classrooms.
