About TJ’s CPR & First Aid
Teaching Life-Saving Skills. Building Confidence. Creating More Heroes.
Welcome to TJ’s CPR & First Aid LLC!
I’m Towanda Starks, owner, CPR & First Aid Instructor, and Instructor Trainer, and for more than 14 years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching people the skills and confidence they need to respond when an emergency happens.
My journey as an instructor began by training teachers and classroom aides who support children and adults with developmental disabilities. What started as an opportunity to help professionals become better prepared has grown into a passion, a business, and a mission to make life-saving education accessible to as many people as possible.
Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to train people from many different professions and walks of life, including teachers, caregivers, healthcare professionals, security professionals, case workers, transportation professionals, workplace teams, parents, grandparents, expectant parents, business owners, teenagers, and community members.
Today, TJ’s CPR & First Aid provides training for both individuals and organizations, with flexible options including in-person and blended learning opportunities. Spanish-language training is also available upon request.
But our mission is growing beyond certification.
From Instructor to Instructor Trainer
After years of teaching students how to save lives, I am proud to take the next step in that mission by helping develop the next generation of CPR & First Aid instructors.
Through the TJ’s CPR & First Aid Instructor Academy, I work with individuals who want to take their skills further by becoming instructors themselves.
Some want to teach CPR as an additional source of income. Others want to expand their careers or businesses. Organizations may want to develop an in-house instructor who can help keep their employees trained and prepared.
Whatever brings someone to instructor training, my goal is the same: to help develop knowledgeable, confident, professional instructors who are prepared to teach others how to respond when seconds matter.
More Than a Certification
I believe CPR & First Aid training should be more than watching a presentation, checking a box, and receiving a certification.
It should prepare you for a real moment.
What happens if you're eating at a restaurant and someone begins choking?
What if you're at a family gathering and a loved one suddenly becomes unresponsive?
What if you're caring for an infant or child and something goes wrong?
What if a coworker collapses at work?
In those moments, people don't need to wonder what they should do. They need the confidence to recognize the emergency, respond quickly, and take action.
That is why my classes emphasize hands-on learning, practical scenarios, participation, and building confidence—not simply memorizing information.
Training Our Community — One Life-Saving Hero at a Time
Heart-related emergencies, choking, injuries, and unexpected medical situations can happen anywhere—at home, at work, at school, in a restaurant, at church, or even while enjoying a day at the park.
You may never expect to use CPR or First Aid.
But if that moment comes, being prepared can make all the difference.
That's what continues to inspire me after more than 14 years of teaching.
Every student who completes a class leaves with knowledge they can carry into their workplace, family, and community. And every instructor I help develop has the opportunity to pass those skills on to hundreds more.
Teaching CPR & First Aid isn't simply what I do—it's something I genuinely love.
My goal is to continue growing TJ’s CPR & First Aid, partnering with businesses and organizations, developing new instructors, and making high-quality life-saving education available to even more communities.
Because when more people know what to do in an emergency, we all become a little safer.
Get Certified. Build Confidence. Save a Life.
