Hi! I’m Tipu Sultan, a PhD student in Aerospace & Mechanical Engineering at Saint Louis University, advised by Prof. Madi Babaiasl in the Mecharithm Lab. My research focuses on enabling safe, real-time assistive robotics by decoding human intent from synchronized brain–muscle–gaze signals (EEG, EMG, and eye-tracking). Specifically, I develop transformer-based multimodal fusion models that improve temporal alignment and robustness to sensor dropout, and translate intent into reliable robot behavior through decision-centric control, such as a learned commit-readiness signal and a feasibility-grounded HOLD–ASSIST–COMMIT shared-autonomy supervisor. My goal is to make assistive manipulators (e.g., Kinova Gen3) respond quickly and safely during daily-living tasks like grasping, transferring, and feeding assistance, even under noisy, variable physiological signals and cross-user differences.
