How to Scan a Receipt
Open TipBrain and allow camera access when prompted
Position your device so the receipt is clearly visible in the camera frame
The app will automatically detect and process the receipt
Review the recognized amounts and make any necessary corrections
Understanding the Receipt Details
Subtotal - The cost of items before tax
Tax - Sales tax amount
Total - Subtotal + Tax (before tip)
Calculating Your Tip
After scanning, TipBrain displays the receipt amounts
Select from the suggested tip percentages or enter a custom amount
The final total with tip will be displayed
Customizing Tip Percentages
Go to Settings in the app
Set your preferred "Lunch Tip %" and "Dinner Tip %"
These percentages will be suggested for future calculations
What If a Tip is Already Included?
If TipBrain detects that a tip or service charge is already included, an alert will appear. This prevents you from accidentally tipping twice. Review the receipt details to confirm before proceeding.
Troubleshooting
Receipt amounts not recognizing correctly?
Ensure the receipt is flat and clearly visible in the camera frame
Check that you have adequate lighting
Try repositioning the receipt or scanning from a different angle
Wipe your camera lens clean
You can manually edit any amount by tapping on the field
Camera permission denied?
Go to Settings > TipBrain > Camera
Enable camera access for the app
App keeps asking for camera permission?
Make sure you've selected "Allow" when prompted
Check your device settings to confirm TipBrain has camera permission
Privacy & Data
TipBrain does not collect, store, or share personal data. Receipt scanning and amount extraction are processed locally on your device, and no images or recognized text are transmitted to our servers.
Your calculation history is saved only on your device and remains under your control. TipBrain does not use analytics, advertising, crash reporting, or other third‑party SDKs that collect personal information.
If you contact us for support, any information you choose to provide is used solely to resolve your request and is not added to the app or linked to your device. You can delete all in‑app data at any time by removing the app from your device.
