Q: Is the hotel keeping the ID or just scanning it?
A: ID is needed in the hotel as this particular hotel don't just scan the ID for visitors. They want to make sure you'll get your ID back yourself to see if you or any visitors stayed the night, it's their policy and not mine.
Its because the hotel has 100 AED fee policy for extra bed for visitors who sleep or leave after 12AM sharp.
And I'm in this hotel because I feel comfortable and safe, almost center of it all. It's an apartment too, and they accept visitors unlike other hotels.
It's their policy, not mine, and you decide if you want to come see me, because I can't change that policy. Since it's not my policy.
If you're good with it, then, we discuss how we meet and the schedule of our appointment.
For meetup schedule, it can't be too late or midnight as I try to sleep at night than oversleep the next day when I accept late meetups.

A: Absolutely safe. Why can't be? And to give you an idea, it's not some cheap hotel. Location wise, and aesthetically, it's 4 star btw. And it's not in some crowded area like Deira or Bur Dubai. Being in Tecom, where its much less crowded than any other areas, I love it here being close to The Greens and its park.
To give you more context, I'm not new here and on this. Even high end resindential apartments ask for IDs, I've been to some. I know it can be annoying, I had those too. But then I realize that it's for my safety too, I prefer not to be hidden in someone's apartment. Andyes, my hotel is apartment too.
It's pretty straightforward here. You can sit in the lobby first to have a feel and you'll notice everyone is ok with giving their ID here. It's the norm here, and everyone has visitors here. There are working professionals. family and kids here. All sorts.
