Artist Statement
I decided to choose a place at my ethnic origin, Vietnam, called Ban Gioc – Detian Falls. In this world, it has many waterfalls and a lake that heals. The lotus purifies the land to keep it flourishing. With this natural world, it is a paradise land where we coexist with nature. Humans cannot hurt Earth since each of us has magic that helps nature. Also, the houses we live in are connect with nature, so they are formed into flowers, mushrooms, or anything that grows in nature. It contradicts with how we live since we mostly destroy a natural habitat to make more land for our own benefit, for example, a city. I decided to make it a fairy –like dreamland since I love the fantasy worlds in games, books, and movies. There will be little houses around it, but not a lot. Then, I decided I am going to add some real-life Pokemon into the world as well. The reason why I chose these was because fairy-related shows like Winx Club and TinkerBell as well as Pokemon were part of my childhood. I was probably like many other kids who wish fairies and Pokemon exist in our real world. When night falls in this world, you could see the stars and the magic.
