I've been working to organize all my acoustic music. I have five volumes of stuff so far; I didn't know I really had so much. So far I have:
This list will get longer as I add to it.
When a musician works in a place that involves the performance of new music, he or she should try to discover actual new music going on in the world. This means reading the new music journals, following music on various sites (BandCamp, YouTube, SoundCloud), and reading the "spam" sent by composers attempting to make people aware of their feeble existences.
I recently sent e-mails out to various churches, informing them about my works for choir I have written. This is not easy work, and I do it because I am not in a position to advertise through schools, as I am not in a school. Well, one of these music directors sent me my e-mail back, and had typed "Unsubscribe me from your list" in large block letters. I doubt this director even bothered to look at my music at all. I'm a nothing, after all, not played many times, why waste time with my music when we have the latest Eric Whitacre piece?
I may not be a perfect composer, but this sort of thing happens a lot. I don't even know why I try anymore.
