Younger musicians deserve better music. Plain and simple. It is also true that the jump from concert band to jazz band can be quite extreme, with players quickly needing to learn ideas such as swing, lead sheets, and even just being comfortable with syncopation. Middle school jazz arrangements for concert band solve this problem. In this line of works, I incorporate basic elements of jazz into the concert band setting, at a level appropriate for the average middle school player. Introduce your players to new harmonies, scales, and rhythms and build stronger players .
