Do I have to have cheerleading experience to tryout?
No! You do not need any prior cheerleading experience. We are looking for candidates who want to be a leader in the school, have a positive attitude, are coachable and want to work hard.
What is the makeup of the cheer program?
The cheer program is comprised of two teams, a Junior Varsity and a Varsity team. This year, the JV team will not compete and will exclusively focus on supporting activities within the school as it is the first year of having a JV team. The JV team has 3-4 commitments per week, and we will work to be flexible with winter and spring sports so if you want to be a JV cheerleader as well as do another sport, you can do both. Our Varsity team is a competitive team that competes locally, regionally and nationally representing THS as well as cheers games throughout the school year. The Varsity team has 5-6 commitments per week, and you may participate in a spring sport as well once the competitive season concludes the first week of February. We also have a mascot program, Coda the Cub. We are always looking for athletes who want to become a mascot and bring joy to students and the community in that role.
How much does it cost to cheer?
Depending on the team the costs can vary substantially. Please reach out to Coach Nikki nrodriguez@psdschools.org for a payment plan and example of what is included and we will make sure to work together to keep cost from limiting athlete participation.
What sports do we cheer?
Football, Basketball (Women and Men), Soccer (Men), Volleyball (Women), Wrestling and some Unified Sports. We also represent at Assemblies, do appearances around the community and at elementary schools, and participate in other community building events.
