Adding a Step-Up ring to your Camp Snap
A permanent modification

This article describes how to modify a Camp Snap with the permanent addition of a 37mm-43mm step-up ring. The ring does not affect the normal operation of the Camp Snap but allows a range of attachments to be added to the Camp Snap. Some of these are discussed below.
A 37mm-43mm step up ring was chosen over other sizes as the 43mm ring size keeps most of the viewfinder free. Larger sized step-up rings obscure the viewfinder. It is not difficult to find attachments that screw into a 43mm ring.
Glue Points
The step-up ring cost 4.30 AUD / USD 2.83 /1.70 EUR from an online marketplace. The ring was superglued to the Camp Snap lens surround. The superglue was applied at 4 even spaced points. The important thing is to ensure that the ring is pushed on with a little force and is equally spaced all round. The ring should evenly abut the little triangular serrations which are found on the outside the Camp Snap lens surround.
Superglue dissolves the Camp Snap plastic. So don’t go applying large blobs of it. I applied 4 small spots to the Camp Snap using a toothpick. (I think you will get this problem with other glues that use a solvent base.)
With the step-up ring permanently in place here are some potential uses. I am sure there are others.
I purchased this lens cap from an online marketplace for 5 AUD / 3.30 USD / 3 EUR. This is a standard style of clip in (clip on?) lens cap found on many camera lens. You push the 2 buttons on either side to release the cap.
I think it makes the Camp Snap look quite handsome.
I use with analogue filters with the black & white Camp Snap digital filter to get various effects especially to darken skies and bring out clouds. 43mm size analogue filters screw straight in.
Film cameras used UV filters to cut UV radiation and associated hazing. I believe that digital sensors don’t react to UV so UV filters aren’t useful. However UV filters are very common on cameras. They are used to protect lens from damage. You can screw a 43mm UV lens on your Camp Snap to keep gunk off its lens. The UV filter has no effect on any resulting photos including exposure time.
I purchased this lens hood from an online marketplace for 11 AUD / 7.90 / 7.30 EUR. In my experience Camp Snaps can let spurious light in from outside the image being captured. I’ve experienced this especially when shooting early mornings with sunlight streaks appearing spiking in from the side of the photos. A lens hood can be used to alleviate this problem somewhat.
I’ve experimented quite a bit with using various diopter macro lens for close up shots. They work well with the Camp Snap and I’ve had some good results. See -
You can get macro lens with a 43mm thread from online marketplaces but you may have to look around a bit as they are most common in larger sizes. Search for “Macro Close Up Lens Filter Kit” and verify the 43mm is the screw in size.
I purchased this Wide Angle Lens from an online marketplace for 17.45 AUD / 10.85 USD / 10.43 EUR. The thread at the back of the lens is 58mm so a second step-up ring of 43-58mm was required to be able to attach the lens to the modified Camp Snap camera.
