3646 Central Avenue, CharlotteThis Is My Brave is a national movement helping communities create shows that bring awareness to mental health, substance use, and the hope of recovery. Individuals with lived experience share their stories of hope on a live stage through artistic expression such as essay reading, spoken word poetry, original music, dance, and other creative methods. It is a platform for individuals to share their stories of living with a mental health diagnosis and sharing hope, empowerment, and healing through artful expressions. Charlotte first hosted a This Is My Brave Show in 2018. In 2024, This Is My Brave CharMeck was reborn. In 2026, we are excited to bring it back.
Sometimes, it takes a brave person to share their story and stand in their truth. We hope that someday, we don't have to be brave to share our stories, it will just be what we do!
The Office of Violence Prevention and ReCAST II (Resiliency in Communities After Stress and Trauma) are joined by community partners to produce This Is My Brave CharMeck for Mecklenburg County citizens. We are working to improve community resilience by shining a light on resilience, increasing access to mental health treatment, and reducing community violence. Join us for two amazing shows of stories of resilience and hope.
