The Facts

Public spaces are necessary to bring a community together, and to increase place attachment. In a survey filled out by college students, 81% of participants socialize in their dorm, compared to 38.1% who utilize public spaces. One of the reasons that public spaces are under-utilized is their inaccessibility and their unpredictability. Outdoor public spaces can only be used if the weather is nice, and indoor public spaces like libraries are not great for socializing. A space in Tilton would allow for a comfortable, accessible place to socialize and bring the Clark community closer together.

Most students said that they meet up in the dorms, and the second most popular place to socialize were public spaces.

Most students are comfortable with spending $5-$10 in a public space, which indicates that the lounge would be funded by people purchasing food + drink.
