Welcome!
I'm a postdoctoral scholar at the Center for Food Security and the Environment at Stanford University. My interests are in development economics, economic geography and remote sensing.
In the fall of 2024, I will take up a position as Assistant Professor at University of Oslo.
In my job market paper, I study how marketplaces in rural areas of low-income countries shape the development of their surroundings and how this age-old institution of rural trade interacts with policies to provide market access.
In a second project, I use satellite imagery to track activity in rural marketplaces. This work has recently received $700,000 in research funding, enabling the first high-frequency, real-time measure of economic activity in remote rural areas at scale.
The Ethiopia Rural Market Monitor is an application of this method.
