Priorities & Issues
For more than 30 years, I've served the people of Craven County in a variety of roles throughout the Sheriff's Office. Those experiences have given me a firsthand understanding of the challenges we face, the responsibilities that come with this profession, and the importance of strong leadership.
Over the years, I've come to believe that experience is only part of the equation. Leadership matters. Character matters. How you treat people matters.
The future of Craven County deserves all three.
I've always believed that the Sheriff's Office should operate with honesty, accountability, and a commitment to doing what is right, even when it's not the easiest path.
People deserve to know they will be treated fairly and with respect. They should have confidence that concerns are taken seriously, complaints are handled appropriately, and everyone is held to the same standard.
I've always believed that law enforcement is about more than enforcing laws. It's about serving the community and building relationships with the people we serve.
I believe the Sheriff's Office should:
• Have a presence throughout the county
• Be accessible to all citizens
• Build relationships before problems arise
Having served in a variety of roles throughout the Sheriff's Office, I understand the challenges deputies face every day and the responsibilities that come with the job.
I've always believed in:
• Supporting the deputies who serve our community
• Providing the training and resources they need to succeed
• Holding everyone to a high standard of professionalism and accountability
When deputies are prepared, supported, and held to high standards, the entire community benefits.
Keeping our communities safe requires more than simply responding when something goes wrong. It requires planning, preparation, and a commitment to addressing problems before they grow.
I believe in:
• Taking a proactive approach to crime and public safety
• Making sure deputies are deployed where they are needed throughout the county
• Giving every case the attention it deserves
Every victim matters, and every call for service deserves a response. No one should feel forgotten or overlooked when they turn to the Sheriff's Office for help.
Public safety is a shared responsibility, and strong partnerships are an important part of serving our community.
I believe in working closely with:
• Emergency management personnel
• Fire and rescue departments
• Local, state, and federal law enforcement partners
• Prosecutors and other public safety agencies
When agencies work together and communicate effectively, our communities are better served and better protected.
Every person deserves to be treated with fairness, dignity, and respect.
• The law should be applied fairly and consistently
• Constitutional rights should be respected and protected
• Trust is earned through everyday interactions and how people are treated
The Sheriff's Office should reflect the values of the community it serves and conduct itself with fairness, professionalism, and respect.
Investing in our young people is an investment in the future of Craven County.
• Supporting safe and secure schools
• Building positive relationships between law enforcement and students
• Creating opportunities for young people to engage with and learn from law enforcement
Strong relationships built early can make a lasting difference and help strengthen our community for years to come.
The men and women who serve our community face challenges that most people never see.
• Providing access to mental health resources and support
• Offering realistic, practical training that prepares deputies for the situations they face
• Creating a culture where asking for help is seen as a strength, not a weakness
When deputies are supported and prepared, they are better equipped to serve and protect the community.
My goal is to help build a Sheriff's Office that reflects the values of the community it serves.
• Working closely with the community and building strong relationships
• Leading with honesty, accountability, and respect
• Providing professional service to every citizen
I believe the Sheriff's Office should be a source of trust, support, and protection for all who call Craven County home.
This isn’t about politics. It’s about the citizens of Craven County.
