Several types of research you can do here:
- Researchers interested in teacher education can:
- identify high-leverage teaching practices (HLTPs) and constituent teachers moves and micro-practices from theoretical frameworks of learning (such as sociocultural theory, conversation analysis, usage-based approaches, and others)
- provide data for MA & PhD students interested in classroom-based research
- Researchers interested in theoretical aspects of language learning and development can:
- build on theories of language development by observing effects from different kinds of experiences in terms of:
- social interaction
- frequency distribution of linguistic forms in the learner's input
- developments as reflected in language produced by learners over time
- provide data for MA & PhD students interested in classroom-based research
- All researchers who conduct research using video from classrooms can:
- Find opportunities to communicate with classroom teachers about what observable behaviors in the videos might contribute to language development
Ensuring institutional approval for research
All videos and other media are pre-screened for approval by school administrators and relevant personnel before being added to this database, particularly in cases where minors (people under age 18) are recorded. That said, researchers interested using any of the media on this website for research purposes are advised to first contact the teacher (an email is provided in the first section of each collection page), and apply for approval through the researcher's own institutional review board (IRB) or human studies office before using any media here for research.
