Rules & Regulations - TIERRAS Percussion Competition

TIERRAS PERCUSSION COMPETITION RULES & REGULATIONS

The TIERRAS Percussion Competition will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Texas A&M International University at the Fine & Performing Arts Center in Laredo, TX.

The TIERRAS Percussion Competition will be held in four categories: Scholastic Keyboard, Scholastic Snare Drum, Collegiate Keyboard, and Collegiate Snare Drum. Candidates may apply for their age category or higher.

In the unlikely event a candidate technically meets eligibility requirements for both Scholastic and Collegiate categories, they may choose only one of the two to compete in. Candidates are allowed to compete in both instrument categories if desired.

Repertoire requirements:

The Tierras South Texas Percussion Competition has two rules:

-The contestants must perform an unaccompanied solo
(i.e. the use of an electronic/audio track or performance with an accompanist are not permitted)

-Time constraints must be followed

Otherwise, we encourage you to choose repertoire that represents YOU the best.

FAQ:

-May I perform unpublished music? (Could this be my own music?)
Yes, you may. The only requirement is that you bring the physical score to the judges. The score must be printed
(not handwritten).

-I wish to perform music by underrepresented composers. Where do I start?
Fantastic! Check out the resources that the PAS Diversity Alliance has put together:
https://www.pas.org/get-involved/diversity-alliance

-May I perform an excerpt of a long movement?
No. While you may choose to perform movements from a large work, cutting up a single movement is not allowed.
