LoR: I am happy to write letters of recommendation for students whom I know sufficiently well. For seminar students, this is usually not an issue because I have frequent opportunities to observe their academic development, participation, and research progress.
Students are strongly encouraged to contact potential recommenders well in advance of application deadlines (1-month in advance), and should approach their main advisor first for a recommendation.
For students with whom I have had limited interaction, my letter, if any, will focus primarily on their academic performance in my courses, which may limit the overall strength of their application.Â
I may also request additional materials if necessary.
