Just 3 days earlier than expected, the TBU Reference Group, ARD, and Südwestrundfunk (SWR) have shortlisted Cologne and Düsseldorf in the bid to become the host city for the nineteenth TiBB Music Festival. The two eliminated cities are Berlin and Hamburg.
Cologne has proposed the 20,000-seat Lanxess Arena for the contest, whilst Düsseldorf has proposed the 66,500-seat Merkur Spiel-Arena, also known as Düsseldorf Arena, for the contest (with capacity capped at 35,000). These two arenas have been used for concerts and big events before, as Lanxess Arena previously hosted the 2007 World Men's Handball Championship, whilst Merkur Spiel-Arena has hosted both the UEFA 2024 and the Eurovision Song Contest 2011.
Before they were eliminated, Berlin had proposed the 17,000-seat Uber Arena; and Hamburg had proposed the <10,000-seat Hall A1 at the Hamburg Messehallen.
