Project website: Financial Education in Africa
250 million African smallholder farmers are challenged by climate change but lack access to insurance services to mitigate the risk. Improving financial literacy is a key to promote financial inclusion. The project aims to implement an education programme (digital vs. conventional approaches) to investigate the best practices of increasing financial literacy. We conduct a pilot study investigating the role of digital education and the effective practices of improving financial literacy in rural Uganda. The study is implemented through an education programme involving 360 coffee farmers. The farmers are split into three groups, one of which will receive digital education, delivered by the mobile app (Ostrii) developed by Rural Inclusion. We track and analyse the perceptual and behavioural changes of the research participants under the influence of different education methods.
The Ostrii platform developed by Rural Inclusion provides digital curriculums using 2D and 3D animated videos in local languages
Modules cover topics regarding financial inclusion, agriculture, climate adaption, leadership and entrepreneurship
