DIRECTOR’S NOTE
Max Frisch, our wonderful little European playwright, was ahead of his time. Or maybe stuck in the past. Maybe both. This play certainly applies to both, but was based on a very specific point in history: the 1948 Soviet backed Communist takeover in Prague. The play’s primary focus is on Herr Biedermann, a normal modern man easily taken in by evil forces until it’s too late. The play’s allegory for complacency rings just as true today as it did decades ago, and has been a human problem since the dawn of civilization. The play has been produced consistently since its premiere, including a TV movie, a radio play, an opera, and was even performed by the inmates at San Quentin Prison in 1965. We love this play. Its overarching messages, its baffling surrealism, and of course the ridiculous pair that are the Firebugs. We hope you enjoy our little show just as much as we enjoyed putting it together.
Thanks for coming, and enjoy The Firebugs.
