Add-on authors are not obligated to have their add-ons work in beta. So expect some or all of your add-ons to not work. Or if they do work today, they may not work tomorrow. Consult the add-ons FAQ if you have difficulty.

How you change back to a release version depends on how you configured your profile data, and when you decide to make the change. If you only have one profile, then the best time to change is shortly before or within two to three weeks after a major version ships publicly, like when version 115 ships and the beta is still version 116. This timing will minimize the possibility that data structures have changed. You have two options:

The releases leading up to our next ESR, version 103, due out next fall (2022) - is going to be the biggest Thunderbird release in a long time, maybe ever. So, I think this community will find the beta releases over the next ~11months really interesting. Also, as a beta user, you can let us know if you see any issues, we could use more folks on beta letting us know what problems they are having.

But, as I test every day Thunderbird, I would like a version/setting change to use it with Thunderbird Daily & Beta (even with a warning message) Could be a LT beta channel.

It works fine with Firefox Nightly

UPDATE: The 1st beta build of Thunderbird 122.0 version is available for download and testing. It comes with new Supernova UI elements such as unified toolbar, 3-pane window, new folder pane and message list, etc.

The latest beta version comes with new features, fixes and improvements. The main highlight of the latest beta version is the introduction of the upcoming Supernova UI. Thunderbird team is planning to implement a brand new Supernova UI in Thunderbird 115 version which is scheduled to release in July 2023 as mentioned in following article:

The email client Thunderbird is available in several editions. Most users use the stable version of the email client, but some may be interested in running the beta and nightly editions of Thunderbird as well.

Thunderbird 102 has been released as a beta edition recently; since it is a major new release, some users may want to check it out prior to final release, e.g., to find out if add-ons continue to work, how the changes and new features work out, or if any other issues are experienced.

Note: Beta versions may have bugs and other issues, and some features may not be complete or available at all. It is recommended to run the beta version of Thunderbird next to the stable version, and to back up Thunderbird data regularly.

Most users may want to install the beta in a separate directory, especially if it is for testing. The Windows version of the installer will use a different directory automatically -- C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird Beta instead of C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird used by the stable edition -- and Linux and Mac users need to select a different folder for the installation to separate beta and stable versions.

Thunderbird Beta will be installed in a separate directory. Make sure to uncheck the "make Thunderbird the default email client" option during setup. The email client will create a beta profile for the new version of Thunderbird, which means that data is not imported by default from the stable profile.

Thunderbird 102 will be released in the coming months. You may use the method described for future beta releases and even for Thunderbird Daily releases, which are even more cutting edge development releases than the beta releases.

Really great article Martin!

I have learned a lot like that the beta is providing a separate directory also a godsend is the part of Thunderbird 102 improved import options, and how to use it correctly.

Ever since trying the beta (originally 114, now 115), I notice that the Windows taskbar and tray icons continue to show the red, "unread" count of messages even after I've read or deleted them. I have to click out of the Inbox and back in for the indicator to clear.

A: Not right now. We recently added a beta channel to Thunderbird to get more feedback from users and prepare for rapid releases. The beta channel is in addition to the existing nightly test builds and final release channel of Thunderbird. There may be an aurora channel soon- stay tuned!

Thunderbird Beta, available now for download, is built on top of the Gecko platform. While this milestone is considered to be stable, it is intended for developers and members of our testing community to use for evaluation and feedback. Users of this latest beta version of Thunderbird should not expect all of their add-ons to work properly with this milestone.

Thunderbird is a mail client that has been around for years and I am sure you have read about it at some point. It has been years since I have used Thunderbird. At that time it did not have a calendar so I would add in Lightening. I saw Thunderbird has a beta that includes a calendar so downloaded version 107.0b4 to give it a look. You can read up and download the Beta here.

I have recently used a beta of a newer version of Thunderbird, and my existing profile. Now, I want to use the previous, non-beta version with that same profile, but am getting an error message about possible changes by the newer version which are no longer compatible etc. etc. 17dc91bb1f
