Imagine wetlands, like marshes and lagoons, not just as beautiful places, but as our best defense against climate change. Our mission is to protect them by involving everyone. Through our app, students and citizens become 'scientific eyes' on the ground, collecting data that helps us find real solutions for pollution and biodiversity loss. It’s about turning local passion into global science.
Through Citizens’ Eyes started as an international research challenge within the CIVIS network to address the rapid degradation of wetland ecosystems. By combining environmental innovation with Citizen Science, we built a bridge between European and African universities. Our journey began with a simple idea: scientific research is more powerful when it's shared. Today, we translate complex ecological data into sustainable actions like bioremediation, empowering local communities to lead the restoration of their own natural resources.
By integrating regional expertise into a unified framework, the project facilitates real-time environmental monitoring and collaborative conservation between European and African partners.
Recent milestones include the full integration of our crowdsourced data into the LifeWatch Italy portal, ensuring our findings support open science globally. We have also successfully piloted nature-based solutions for water purification, proving that community-led monitoring can directly lead to ecological recovery.
