Introduction

Three Brothers in a Spacious Kingdom is a modern interpretation of the myths of the Roman gods Jupiter, Neptune, and Pluto (the Greeks knew them as Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades). In Three Brothers, the gods rule an outer space kingdom, while also watching over their earthly realms.

According to ancient Roman and Greek myths, brothers Jupiter, Neptune, and Pluto are the gods of the sky, the sea and the earth, and underworld, respectively. Jupiter is also king of all other gods, occasionally resulting in jealousy from his brothers, which in turn leads to tales of their rivalry. However, each is powerful in his own right; multiple myths recount episodes of their kindness and fury, love-lives and family ties.

In this retelling, the heavenly brothers trade Mount Olympus and the Underworld for the Milky Way Galaxy, ruling over the planets that hold their names, along with their domains on Earth. Much like the classical myths, in Three Brothers, each god encounters conflicts relating to his role as a deity. The stories in this series are largely informed by Roman and Greek myths of the trio. However, the problems faced by Jupiter, Neptune, and Pluto in Three Brothers have contemporary twists, which are directly related to the realm which each commands.

For example, Jupiter might express his wrath towards nuclear warfare, as humans make his precious sky their battleground. Neptune could mourn the melting of the glaciers, and the loss of his ornate coral reefs. Perhaps Pluto will scorn mankind for their belief that they can conquer death. Each of the gods is featured in his own story, but special emphasis is given to how he interacts with his brothers while seeking a solution to his worldly problems. Read on to discover how the three brothers reign and rage in their spacious kingdom.
