Twenty-three years after its release, When the Smoke Clears: Sixty 6, Sixty 1 remains a landmark album in the history of Southern hip-hop. Its innovative production, compelling lyricism, and diverse array of voices have ensured its place in the pantheon of hip-hop classics. As the smoke clears, the legacy of Sixty 6, Sixty 1 continues to loom large over the landscape of American music.

DJ Paul and Juicy kind of blew their "Sippin' On Da Syrup" cache by releasing Choices: The Album, a cobbled-together soundtrack for their straight-to-video movie that featured too many rowdy club joints and "Chickenhead" rip-offs. The next proper Three 6 Mafia album, Da Unbreakables was the first without Gangsta Boo and Koopsta Knicca, and the new four-man lineup began to experiment more with the sound of the burgeoning Houston scene, collaborating with a then-incarcerated Pimp C and Lil' Flip on three songs. For the most part, the rest of the album was filled with rowdy crunk threats, except for "Bin Laden," which sticks out as the song that most closely resembles the old Triple Six. With a menacing, minor beat, a morally-confusing reference, and a lot of weed, it sounds like a beefed-up version of more than a few mixtape classics.

Bridgette takes Emily to the car to smoke weed to start her no stress day, and gets high. The two go around town in a drugged state, and Emily gets paranoid by what's going on around her. She then runs into her daughter's teacher during an experimental jazz concert. Candice's teacher offers Bridgette and Emily weed and wine as they settle down, but Emily refuses and gets under panic when weed is mentioned. She punches him under the pressure from the drugs. Emily explains about her stress to the teacher. She tells him she likes working but she has no idea what she wants to do and whether or not she can do a good job on it. He tells her that it won't feel like she can do a good job until she starts doing things for herself, and suggests she should find out what her interest is, taking multiple hobbies.

"Never trust anyone who doesn't smoke pot or doesn't like Bob Dylan," advises Ben Kingsley's messed-up shrink, Dr Squires, in Jonathan Levine's pitch-perfect rites-of-passage film, set in New York in 1994 to a hip-hop soundtrack. Josh Peck's glum drug dealer sells weed to Squires in return for life advice. Together, they debate loneliness and seek out women. It's a simple premise, but there's a barely a bum note.
