Thorn Hill Education Center Launches Community Garden Club in Frankfort
Frankfort, Kentucky — The Thorn Hill Education Center is planting more than vegetables this season it’s planting community. The newly launched Thorn Hill Education Center Garden Club invites residents of all ages to get their hands in the soil and help cultivate a vibrant teaching garden designed to bring people together through learning, sustainability, and shared stewardship.
Located at the Thorn Hill Education Center on Leslie Avenue, the garden club will serve as a living classroom where volunteers, families, students, and neighbors can work side by side to grow food, flowers, and practical knowledge. The initiative focuses on hands-on participation, making gardening accessible whether someone is a lifelong grower or someone who still thinks tomatoes come from the grocery store.
The Garden Club will focus on developing a welcoming community space that includes raised beds, teaching plots, native flowers, and areas designed for collaborative learning. Volunteers will participate in planting, watering, composting, garden maintenance, and seasonal workshops that explore topics such as sustainable growing practices, food systems, and environmental stewardship.
“Our goal is simple,” said organizers at the Thorn Hill Education Center. “We want to create a place where people can learn together, work together, and grow something meaningful — both in the garden and in the community.”
The Thorn Hill Education Center Garden Club emphasizes three core values: community, sustainability, and connection. By encouraging collaboration across generations and experience levels, the program aims to strengthen local relationships while promoting healthy outdoor activity and ecological awareness.
Community members are invited to participate in a variety of ways volunteering in the garden, helping lead workshops, contributing plants or materials, or simply showing up ready to learn.
The garden club also supports the broader mission of the Thorn Hill Education Center, which focuses on expanding educational opportunities and strengthening community engagement throughout the region.
