High School State Swim Meet in 2024
After I qualified for State Swimming finals in 2024
In January 2022, I met The Brachial Plexus Team at Cincinnati Children’s Medical Center after months of dealing with chronic nerve pain. This began suddenly in November 2021 with sharp shooting pain radiating from my neck down to my right hand, eventually spreading to my left arm. Despite seeing multiple doctors, none could determine the cause. When I met with Doctor Kevin Little, a specialist in Thoracic Outlet Syndrome Treatment, my life changed for the better. He diagnosed me with Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (TOS), a condition caused by the compression of the brachial plexus nerves.
From March 2022 to March 2023, I underwent four surgeries to decompress the nerves in both my right and left arms. Thanks to the amazing care from the Brachial Plexus Team, I have regained my quality of life, returned to swimming, and reclaimed the ability to do everything I once could.
Living with TOS opened my eyes to the challenges faced by patients and their families dealing with brachial plexus conditions. The pain and uncertainty of living with a brachial plexus condition can be physically and emotionally overwhelming. I learned firsthand the importance of an early diagnosis, specialized care, and a supportive community. The Brachial Plexus Team at Cincinnati Children’s provided not only expert care but compassionate, patient-centered care. This was life-changing, not only for me but also for my family, and I believe every patient deserves the same. That’s why I am committed to giving back.
Here is a Wikipedia page to explain some of the sign, symptoms, causes and progression in treatment plans.
The Brachial Plexus Center at Cincinnati Children’s is one of the few places in the country where children can receive comprehensive, team-based treatment for brachial plexus conditions. Their expertise and dedication didn’t just help me heal physically - it inspired me to make sure other families have access to the same outstanding care.
Ongoing research at Cincinnati Children’s plays an essential role in advancing both the care they provide and their understanding of brachial plexus conditions. Current and future studies focus on improving diagnostic methods, understanding the causes, exploring treatment innovations, and assessing the long term outcomes. By expanding their knowledge through these studies, the Brachial Plexus Team is better equipped to provide outstanding care to their patients.
