The JPL invention challenge is the first project of the year in which we participated in a challenge by JPL. The challenge was to get 10 Franklin ping pong balls from 5 meters away into a jar. There was a 30x30 cm stay out zone in which nothing was allowed in during the run except the ball. We spent 3 months working on the project, and we came up with a machine powered by a vacuum as well as a CAD rendering along with it. We participated in our own competition to weed out three members to send to regionals. In the end, we couldn't make it due to technical problems in our first run, but we did get 9/10 balls in the second run. We did later on find out if we were to go to regionals, we would have made it to the finals, as the lowest score to get into the finals was only 4. Below is the score sheet along with my slides that go through the entire project.
