Ball screw backlash strictly speaking is the axial free movement of the ball screw to the ball nut. Ball screw backlash is not rotational in nature. There are special applications which require zero backlash of the ballscrew, this is an inbuilt nature of THK Ball screws. Since all THK ground ball screws have the nut preinstalled at manufacturing facility, all of them have zero backlash. Rolled ballscrews from THK have some backlash unlike the ground ball screws. This point could be important for ball screw selection for special applications.

Most manufacturers have a in house design parameters & catalogs that are based on some key industry standards.
