About Me

On Friday the 13th, (March 13, 2020), I walked out of my third grade classroom, not realizing I wouldn't be back there with students this school year. It was the middle of my 18th year of teaching. As a mom to two elementary aged children, life was pretty crazy as we all quarantined at home while trying to teach/learn from devices. This time capsule is my way of processing this moment in history. It is also helping me think through how I can lead my students to make their own digital time capsule during this upcoming school year (which looks to be quite different from any other year I've been in the classroom.)

Hello! I am Kathleen Neagle Sokolowski. I've been a teacher in the Farmingdale School District since 2001. I've taught kindergarten, special education, 6th grade and I currently teach 3rd grade. In addition to being a classroom teacher, I am the co-director of the Long Island Writing Project. I also am a co-author of the Two Writing Teachers blog. You can find me on Twitter @MrsSokolowski and Instagram @mrssokolowski.

A few other things about me:

I always wanted to be a teacher.

The library is my favorite place.

"Working Girl" is one of my favorite movies with the most classic lines.

I've always lived on Long Island.

I LOVE flair pens!

Hydrangeas are my favorite flower. These grow in my backyard and I look forward to enjoying them every summer. I wish they bloomed longer.

Didn't every child of the 80's have a Strawberry Shortcake costume at one point? Here I am circa 1984.

Here are my cutie pie kids! "Chalking a walk" was one of our early quarantine activities.
