Author's Note: The picture above was vampire Summer after she was turned by (Y/n). Like it or hate it, that's what I imagined how she would look like after her initial evolution to an [Origin Vampire]
(Y/n): Damn, I can't believe it. Is she really my servant now?
<><><><><><><><><><><><>
Something is wrong, I thought
Nothing has happened up until this point. Absolutely nothing noteworthy appeared, despite the fact that such an escape from us would guarantee the military's notice in a short time.
I could feel it on my skin
I could smell it in the air
Fuck, I could even hear it, ticking away like a timed bomb, waiting to explode in my face when I least expect it. Just like it always do
Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock
I closed my eyes. My [Sixth Sense] couldn't detect anything abnormal in my surrounding, which means whatever is going to happen won't come for some time
Still, I couldn't help shaking off the feeling that something is wrong. After the rescue of the prisoners on the coast, we managed to get ourselves an experienced crew, which, as expected, really reduces the time needed to operate this ship
Still, even hardened men like them have their limits. After 3 hours of making haste off Atlas, everybody succumbed to their exhaustion and went off to sleep, leaving their captain alone on the deck
I can't exactly judge them, given that they had to fight off the military at the village and barely escaped with their life. The sudden adrenaline cooldown must have forced their system to take a take a temporary rest for now
...As it is, me along with Carmine are the only ones on the deck, with Matsuo taking shifts to the former as the one who sails the ship. They're the only one who knows where Menagerie is, and they are both experienced in seafaring, so I can only leave it to them
'Let's see, right now we would be 90km away from the island' I made some mental calculation 'We'll reach there in a day and a half if everything went well, which means I'll still get there within the 10 days limit'
IF everything went well, that is....
I frowned
"No, that's no good, (Y/n). You can't just be gloomy all the time like that" I chided myself, before my eyes widened "I know, let's do something to pass the time here"
I've got several things in mind to do, now that all the troublesome tasks have been dealt with

Ugh...
My head is spinning right now
I have to remind myself that learning each of these spell would cost me 5 levels. 5 precious levels that I've worked so hard to obtain in order to reach a new evolution in the past few weeks. If I got lost in my own greed for power now, there's a chance I won't be able to take it back when I need it
At most, I can only afford to learn 4 of them before I have to stop to not devolve into a common Beowolf. With that thought in my mind, I sighed in exasperation
Briefly, I entertained the thought of buying [Reality Warp]. Such a dominant skill will guarantee my victory on any opponent, short of God himself
It will be fun turning Reality into my bitch

"Hehe, Reality-chan" I grinned, my hands turned to groping motion as I inched closer to her "prepare to be fucked through space and time!"
"No, (Y/n)-kun, stop" Reality-chan tried to escape from my grasp, her breath coming out in short burst as she frantically crawled away "Don't do it, don't do it. That thing won't fit me, (Y/n)-baka. No!"
In a flash, I appeared behind her with a collar in my hand, a cheerful expression on my face
"Ready or not, here I come~"
"YAMETE~"

(Editor's Note: Author, please stop. Fourth-wall-chan can't take it any longer!)

Yeah, no...It is definitely worth considering, and it would be, if it wasn't for that cost. No matter how determined you are, 'sacrificing everything for the sake of power is just too much of a price to ask for a person
What if I turned into another power-maniac like those shitty villains in superhero movies? I shuddered just thinking about it
*sigh* Looks like I'll just have to choose something less Magic-intensive for now, playing God could be left for later
After another moment of thinking about it, I decided to purchase [Shadow Puppets], [My Ears and eyes], [Flame Domain], and [One for All, and All for One] out of those presented to me
"Goodbye, my precious experiences" You will be dearly missed
It's just four skills, but I can already think of some pretty interesting combo with them.
My face turned soured however as I felt my levels dropping down, from 78 to 58 in a span of a moment. Surprisingly, my stats still stayed the same despite the drop in experience. Seems like apart from the inability to evolve, learning a spell does not cost you anything else
The fact that I won't lose stat points did lessen my depressed mood a little, as I smiled again
"Great" I muttered "Now that that matter has been dealt with, what should I do next?"
I sat on the deck and began brainstorming the things I could do that I haven't done before. Normally I would just do some physical training, but the noises may wake the crew up
So, naturally, I'm doing some anime cross-referencing to search for ways to get stronger, just like what other Gamers had done before me
From the limited world knowledge I got from that World of Remnant show, Aura is a versatile form of energy, existing in every living creature as it is a manifestation of their souls. When comparing it to other energy type used in different animes, one can see there's a clear similarity between them
Haki from One Piece
Chakra from Naruto
Reiatsu from Bleach
and of course, Ki from Dragon Bal-
Ding!
No
Wait, what?
Ding!
No Ki is allowed. Not here. Not now. Not in Hell. Not. Ever. After.
But why no-
Ding!
Because it's an overused and over-fucking-powered ability, now cross that shit out of your list right now or we're going to delete your miserable, two-dimensional existence from this world
With that message, the screen disappeared into thin air, as though it was never there to begin with
I blinked
Did the System just got mad at me for mentioning Ki, a fictional power from a fictional series?
I know it's kind of cliche in RWBY stories, but at least I didn't get triggered by it....
Whatever, back to the topic at hand
I have noticed that Haki, Chakra, and Reiatsu all have resemblance to Aura, as all of them portrays the power generated by one's inner energy, usually created from the soul. That means if I can somehow imitate the way they are utilized by different characters, I can (hopefully) copy their abilities as well, thus expanding my arsenal in ways never seen before
For Haki, it's "strengthening" one's senses and abilities beyond superhuman limit, to the point that one can have a glimpse of the future before it even happened
For Chakra, it's "transmutation" of their energy into different elements, thus allowing for a more diverse range of attack to literal space-time control
For Reiatsu, "refine" and "control", increasing the pressure of their soul realm to a monstrous level that can obliterate a mountain with just one swing of their weapon
After all, if it's the same "what", why not the same "who" and "how"? The methods may be different, but the input is estimated to be the same. With no special condition, one could confidently conclude that the process is repeated the output will be roughly, if not exactly like each other
It's a far-fetch theory of mine, but you know what they say about ever tried and ever failed. Each failure is just a step closer to success, and with each success, comes a....Uh...
....Eh, I forgot
Well, let's just start with Haki then, I'm just going to focus with Chakra and Reiatsu later
If I think about it, [Hardening] and [Sixth Sense] has been a fine replacement for Armament Haki and Observation Haki up until now. But if I want to take it up to a higher level, I have to master these thing
Now, I'm not exactly a One Piece fanatic, but it's stated somewhere that one can awaken their Haki through intense training, extreme shock, or you can simply be born with it (which is the case for some like the mermaid queen). But I'm not sure if things can go THAT well for me
And since I'm smart enough to know that I don't possess Emperor's Haki, I'm just going to focus my attention on training the other two until I can start consciously using them. Oh, how am I going to train myself, you ask?
Simple, I'm just going to keep spamming [Hardening] and [Sixth Sense] to their limit until those things become second-nature to me. Triggering one's power by extreme external stimuli, that way I can unlock Ultra Instinct like Goku have
Ping!
Due to making a Dragon Balls reference, the System will hereby delete (Y/n) (L/n) in 5...4....3...2...
'WAIT, IT'S JUST A JOKE!'
<><><><><><><><><><><><>
The night passed, and the morning came
Yet still, nothing happened
Well, something did happened. While I wasn't able to awaken my Haki, I can now apparently sense things in a medium radius around me even when I'm not using [Sixth Sense], which...is a lot of progress for one night to be honest. I had even expected my efforts to turn out useless
Sighing, I stood on the deck with a smile on my face. While I should be thankful that the night was uneventful, one shouldn't let their guard down, especially in situation like this. What if the military suddenly appeared around that corner and ambushed us?
I rubbed my eyes, clearing the paranoia from my thoughts
Ugh, seriously. Ever since that incident at the bar, I've been overthinking things too much. It's unhealthy for one to do that, and may lead to detrimental effects in the long run. I should have know better than this
Yeah, that's right! Let's think positively for once! Sometime you just have to believe in life and all the good things in it
Life definitely doesn't want to fuck me up or anything, maybe it's just my pessimism at work that's at fault here
"Captain, 50km from Menagerie!" One of the crew members yelled down to me, to which I responded with a nod of my head
Me, Matsuo and Carmine had decided to let them out on an island near Menagerie once we got there, as I'm sure the people on the Faunus Island propably won't react too well with a bunch of human arriving on their place, with no permission from the government
That's why, during the last 5km, it will be just the three of us and this ship, leaving us vulnerable to enemy attack, to which I'll have to rely on the two of them for identification purpose. At least it wasn't so bad
Just then, I suddenly sensed something in the distance, my enhanced [Sixth Sense] instinctively flared up in response
A feeling of dread surged across my chest as I realized what it was
Touching the steering wheel, I lightly spun it to the right. The ship quickly veered to the side in response, obeying it's captain's command
BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM
Everyone shouted as several cannon shot can be heard from the distance, followed by cannonballs crashing in the sea surface near them, some of which missing the ship's hull by mere inches, sending water splashing over the deck
If I haven't steered the ship in time, we would have suffered major casualties right now
From behind the coast, several Atlesian warships revealed themselves, accompanied by at least a dozen of Bullhead. All of them armed to the teeth, all of them have their guns at the ready, trained on their only target: My ship
"Everybody, full sails, prepare for combat!" Some of them hastily climbed up the mast, while the rest rushed down the deck to prepare their own cannonballs. Beside me Carmine readied her gun as Matsuo flipped to another page of his manga
"What the- Stop reading that manga and ready for combat, you bull!" The bunny yelled
"No wait, I almost finished this One Piece Wano Arc!" He cried, hastily flipping to another page "Luffy is soloing Kaido with his awakened Fifth Gear right now and there's no way I'm missing it!"
"Which is more important, your life or that damned manga?!"
"You already know the answer to that. Manga for life!!"
"Goddamnit" I gritted my teeth, too nervous to even bother with them "Ugh! Let's think positively, (Y/n)! At least things can't get worse than this!"
<><><><><><><><><><><><>
With a slight buzzing sound, the holographic scene came to life, revealing a shadowed figured behind it
Around it, other screen also began to turn on. One by one, they formed a council of holographic figures, blurring as they each appeared in the dark virtual room. Each of them with an "incognito" symbol on top
The shadowed figures formed a neat ellipse stadium, from high to low, dividing into four sectors, each representing their own respective places and authority in this world
And standing in the center of it, is one James Ironwood, with his own screen connected to all of them
"So then" The head figure said, starting the conversation "Do you mind telling us what this ruckus is all about, General Ironwood?"
"What it is all about, sir?" The man smiled "Very simple, sir. It's the Grim...again"
"Ah"
"Okay"
"Hmm, that makes sense..."
Sounds of acknowledgement echoed across the virtual room. Everybody is just so used to the Grim at this point that they're hardly surprised anymore, the most you'll get out of them with that name is an "ah, I see"
And no, that line doesn't only come from a goblin-slaying manic like you would think
But back to the topic. If this was only 3 days ago, the mere mention of that name would have caused one of the three emotions: Fear, anger, and paranoia. These emotion will be several time worse if you refer to it in front of a government officials who works in the military (and 70% of the time would result in a punch to the face as well)
Apparently attacking the Huntsman Headquarter, one of the most secured place in a Kingdom, is is a pretty big deal. Who could have possibly know that?
And apparently when that Kingdom just happens to be Atlas, the one which places the most heavy emphasis on national security and anti-terrorist movement, things just got several times worse
One would have think it's enough to make the government's top dogs rip their hairs off in frustration. To them, things couldn't have gotten worse than that situation
But then, surprise surprise, things DID got worse for them, such is the fate of those who dare to challenge Murphy and his supreme law
The event of the Atlesian Headquarter lead to a thorough investigation of the place in search for the culprit. Little did the government at the time know, doing only so has only served to dig their own graves
Inside the ashen remains of the place, Specialists were shocked as traces of illegal activities were unearthed before their very eyes. Weapon Trading and Manufacturing. Drug dealing. Lethal Chemical handling. Evidences of these crimes led to one Dr.Evil, who had clearly bribed the officials working here to turn a blind eye to his heinous activities
But perhaps the most horrible thing that was discovered is the records detailing the doctor's enjoyment in his worst offense yet. Child Experiment. The dead doctor was reported to have unlawfully bought children from local villages to inflict his sick torment on them, in the name of "science" as he have claimed in his reports
And do you know what's the worst thing from this whole business?
Further investigation had led to the sure conclusion that It's ACTUALLY the Grim that rescued these children from their torments and expose their illegal activities that had been hidden all these years from the eyes of the public
This revelation, consequently, lead to two things
One, the Specialists at the crime scene had sent in letters for their resignation the following day. After what they witnessed, these people have simply lost their faith in their government. The days after that, several thousands more letter like that arrived at the military's mail in piles, most of which are from active soldiers and on-duty Specialist who heard of the news
All of them are reluctantly accepted. With that, 20% of the military work-force was gone over-week, just because of a small action of an individual who isn't even aware of it
(As a result, this would later lead to a certain Schnee choosing a different career path for herself as well)
Two. Despite their efforts, that last bit of information managed to get out of the government's hands and spread itself to the public. Even when they have shutdown every mainstream channel like Youtube, Reddit or Facebook, hackers everywhere have managed to copy the URL link before posting it on less well-known websites and private forums for discussion...Such is the power of the internet
This lead to an unexpected consequence
The Grim, instead of being flagged as a criminal like they have wanted them to, has actually managed the opposite instead.
The medias, as well as everyone on the Internet had rallied and pointed the blame at the incompetence of the Atlesian government, while hailing Grim as their dark knight. It is only logical after all. considering the circumstances
In their eyes, the former is the one who is responsible for this mess, for all the crimes they've ignored and the corruption of their officials. The Grim, meanwhile, is the one who went through the trouble of infiltrating the headquarter, risking his life to free the children, and exposed the truth for all to see, effectively putting himself in a favorable light from the start
In just one move, one simple move, the individual himself had turned to a respectable figure in the public's eyes, just as he had intended to from the beginning. It was at this moment that the higher-ups understood: They had fallen for his traps the moment they set foot into the crime scene, or quite possibly, the moment they have decided to make him their enemy
From the start, they have been nothing more than mere pawns on his grand chessboard
All the reputation and trust they have tried so hard to yearn for, crumbled overnight
The government opened their trump card, hoping to turn the attention from them and eliminate a rising threat, thus effectively killing two birds with one bullet
All they got from the criminal was a reverse card instead
Just how far in this game had he planned? The degree of logical thinking and preparation needed to pull this off, even for high-ranking political strategists working together, would amount to no less than 10 years to even form the basic groundwork to it
Against the Grim, they felt powerless. The higher-ups in the government was truly backed into the corner by this cunning manipulator, like puppets dancing on his strings with no freewill of their own
And with the rising tension from the public, the increasing international pressure from outside the Kingdom, and not to mention the crumbling system they're desperately maintaining. It will only be a matter of time before Atlas's government is crushed under it's own weight
Before all these problems, it is only normal that one would get desensitized by the madness that is the Dark Grim
Apart from setting a bounty for him, they could not actively went out to hunt him down as doing so would only paint them in bad light, and that's the one thing they need the least in the situation at the time if their position is brought into consideration
Unable to move forward, unable to back down. An absolute political deadlock hung above them, like a reminder of their own incompetence in capturing one single individual.
But that's enough reminiscent, let's focus back on the present, shall we?
"So...did he do this time, General?" One of the figure behind the scene asked tiredly "Please don't tell us The Grim become the Pirate King or something like that, because I'm sure my heart can take anything more than this"
Ironwood coughed into his hand "In retrospect, he's only a Pirate Lord right now"
"Oh my God" The shadowed figure clenched his hand on his chest as he begin shaking violently, before falling out of sight, with choking noises still resounding in the background
"What exactly happened?" Another councilman calmly asked, professionally ignoring his dying colleague beside him
"Just yesterday, General Hawk, a fellow General with the same rank as me, got new information about the Grim's location near one of the local village"
Silence
"We haven't receive any report about it"
"Yes, that's because Hawk, in all his grandiose delusions of personally catching the criminal and earn himself a promotion, had sent his own force, as well as mobilizing all of the local reserved force to plan an all-out assault on the Grim's location"
Ironwood is satisfied to see everybody bristling in rage. He is somewhat pleased that these people aren't as incompetent as they look
As an Atlesian, their most important qualities are caution and disciplinary, preferring information-gathering over actual combat as their primary priority in dealing with criminal. That's why many of them are so angry with the General's action, as it clearly went against what they have aimed for
What if the leaked information was a trap from the Grim? What if they figuring out about his location has been a part of his plan from the start? What if it's just another diversion like last time to leave a base open for attack?
What if the General's information dealer's information dealer's information dealer's information dealer's information dealer's information dealer's information dealer's information dealer's information dealer's information dealer's information dealer's information dealer's information dealer's information dealer has been compromised?
Knowing the Grim, maybe he already planned this all out in advance and manipulate their information channel through subtle means, controlling their thoughts through ways too complex for the human mind to even comprehend, thus allowing them to led themselves into a false sense of control over the situation
After all, they are talking about the one whose intelligence surpass the highest level of madness here, possibly the most cunning foe they have ever encountered in the history of Atlas, if not the entire human kind itself
"And what happened after that?" Another one leaned forward, his Internet username - "RichieRichie61" - glowed brightly in the dark
"The information turned out to be correct, but they are met with unexpected resistance from him "
"What do you mean "unexpected"? As incompetent as he may be, Hawk have to at least know how dangerous the Grim is not to prepare for him"
"What I'm trying to say is that the casualties they suffered are...larger than expected"
"Ah" Silence reigned the room "Just to be clear, what level of....casualty are we talking about here?"
"That's a good question, RichieRichie61. Around 700 troops are sent to deal with him. Out of all of them, only 1 survived, and he is currently undergoing therapy from a severe case of PTSD. So, in retrospect, the casualties on our side roughly amounted to 99.68%" The General closed his eyes
"..So it's the "Grim" level, then"
"Apparently" Ironwood smiled tiredly "But that's just a minor thing compared to what you're about to hear"
"Ah, yes" Another one spoke "Please enlighten us as to why on Remnant did the Grim became the Pirate Lord of all things"
"He killed Gangplank, who just happens to be there"
"Who just happens to be there?"
"Apparently. The man decided to take a break from his most recent heist in Mistral to visit one of the nearby town"
"....."
"Wouldn't killing the captain make him an easy target for other criminals who want to take the title from him?"
"They are killed by our forces before managing to reach them"
"....."
"How did he obtained a crew, then?"
"By freeing our prisoners, who are all high-ranking criminals, and make them work under him"
"......"
"So, General Ironwood. What you're saying is...." The head councilman took a deep breath "If we haven't been there, Gangplank's title wouldn't have been overtaken by the Grim?"
"Yes"
"Do you think it's all a part of his plan?"
The General sent him an 'are you retarded' look
"As a matter of fact: Yes, yes I do"
"What actions have been taken to salvage the situation?"
"We have sent the remaining forces for a second assault out in sea. This time precautions have been taken first to ensure the success of the ambush. Heavy-armored Bullhead, heavy-artillery Warships, and at least over a thousand of armed-and-ready men have been prepared beforehand"
"Then the most we can do now is to pray for those brave men, then"
"I agree. General Ironwood out"
<><><><><><><><><><><><><>
"Where are you going?" Avindale opened one eye and stared into the darkness, where the shadowed figure of his daughter is putting on her coat. The small Grimm stopped, but she still didn't turn to him
"Oh, Father" The Heiress Sloth replied casually, sheathing her sword into it's scabbard "I'm going back to the Grimmland for training for the next few days"
What?
"Why would you want to go back there? You've been training fine these past few days, after all"
"I'm just visiting the other Sins to see how they're doing with their training. (Y/n) did tell us to get stronger while he was gone, after all"
"...."
"Well, I don't care. Have a safe trip" He closed his eye and went back to sleep
"Have a safe trip? I'm going to kill you one day to earn that Deadly Sin title, you know?"
"Not my problem. You're not strong enough to do so, anyway"
Helen only shrugged, before turning to her Grimm form
"I may not be at the moment" She whispered "But once I'm strong enough- Once we're all strong enough- we will take that power from your hand with our own strength. We will become the new Deadly Sins"
She smiled
"And this time....we'll have a King to guide us"

Editor's note: Hi, author's brother here. This is my first time trying my hand on anything remotely resembling writing, so sorry if you found my editing to be shabby. Any grammatical error you found will be fixed by me if you take the time to point it out in the comments!
And Thien send you his regards, he can't reply to any of your comments right now as he is too busy dealing with his god-awful Chemistry grades for the upcoming mid-term test. I swear, that guy have to be worst in his class when it comes to the subject
