With a hop, Helen jumped out of reality and into another plane of existence.
The universe around her distorted, twisting and swiveling in a miasma of kaleidoscopic colors as she was hurled through space and time with near blinding speed. Before she knew it, the slime was already there, hovering mid-air from the sudden shift in gravity of this world
Blink
"Huh?"
She had expected her feet to reach the ground in a short fall. Instead, all Helen could feel is empty air beneath. Needless to say, she was initially surprised the lack of landing stone for her
Then gravity took hold of her, and our Grimm girl began free-falling downward from the sky with a terrifying speed
"Aeeeeeeeeeeee!"
In all sense, she should have expected this when going travelling like that
Unlike Remnant, this world's gravity is several times higher, which results in an increased falling velocity for any object being dropped from a high place like this (G= 204 m/s^2). Naturally, a Grimm like her is not an exception to the laws of physics
Since she is effectively brought here in an unmoving state, the big G slammed at her with the previously mentioned speed, disorienting her perception of directions around her
Helen could feel that Newton guy giving her a middle finger in heaven the moment her body experienced the gravitational shift in space. As the wind rushed through her hair, the slime brought both her arms out as she attempted to lower the momentum from the fall
"Superhero Landing!" She shouted, just for the heck of it
Chunks of earths blew out as the girl crash-landed to the ground with the force enough to snap a normal person's neck several times over. She landed headfirst into the ground, burying the rest of her body along with it, before leaving her feet sticking out in the air comically, just like a cartoon character
For a moment, thick clouds of dust covered the entire area, lingering in the aftermath of the recent fall until it was blown away from a stray breeze nearby. Helen walked out from the crash site, looking none the worse for wear
Dusting herself of the dust, the slime stood there and inspected her surrounding with a casual gaze, as if her previous embarrassing action hadn't even happened
As expected, she's in her intended destination. How wonderful. Everything just go as she had planned
"I really should practice more on my teleportation magic" She mused, placing a finger on her chin as the thought crossed her mind "It's troublesome how I always messed up the landing, even though I've done it hundreds of times before"
But that can be put for later (aka probably never, because procrastination is and will always be a bitch for someone like her)
Right now she wants to look for her two pack members. If what she know is true, they are most likely to be in this region of the Grimmland
She set her eyes in the horizon, where a vast barren desert stretched itself around her, with nothing in sight no matter where she look, as if all life has leave the place a long time ago. Above the wasteland, a broken moon stood silently watching over here
The Plain Region, where all types of Grimm could be found walking around the place. It's just a mix-match from other regions basically. Here you could usually found the weaker Grimm preying on even weaker Grimm to become stronger Grimm, only to be devoured by even stronger Grimm in the process. Big fish small fish and all that
If she were to use a human-term to describe the Plain region, it would be "outlaw". This is the only place in the entire Grimmland where kin-slaying, cannibalism, as well as genocidal rampages are allowed, and also where all the rogue Grimm fled to when they lost a battle with another pack
In this place, no rules are applied, save for that of survival itself. Failures to comply to this rule may result in being killed, being eaten, or, often time enough, being forcefully copulated if you just happen to be a female wandering near there
Which is the reason why she believe they are here in the first place. The Plain's Grimm are plenty in numbers as well as individual power level, coupled that with the fact that there are several thousands of them coming here everyday, and that makes this place an ideal spot for training (aka "EXP farming" as (Y/n) would like to put it)
Closing her eyes, she expanded her senses further upon the wasteland, searching for her fellow Grimm's location. It wasn't that easy for Helen, who is a Grimm specialized in stealth and assassination, but her fair shares of training allowed her to pull through enough
After a while, two presences appeared to have been found standing in the middle of a plain. However, there is a difference about their surroundings, one that made Helen's eyes twitched
"What the hell are they doing?..." She shook her head
<><><><><><><><><><><>
When Helen arrived at her destination, she couldn't say that she has expected what she saw there
Well, she should have, considering these two are a part of (Y/n)'s pack, but still...For two Grimms to do this is just simply unthought of
You must be wondering what happened here
The reason is...nothing
The barren wasteland is void of Grimm. Not a single one of them can be seen roaming around the place. Nothing. For her, this is a strange, especially since it's supposed to be one of the main region in the Grimmland, which usually means a large number of them should be gathered here at any given moment. Should.
Yet, she could see none, apart from-
*sigh*
"Oh hey, it's Helen!" A figure jumped out in front of her. It was Murdoch the Hellhound, wearing nothing but a pair of black pants and a jacket to cover his naked upper body. He has a thin, yet muscled physique, as evident from the abs seen underneath his jacket
The Grimm doesn't seems like his post-evolution self, Helen noted. For once, his ears had disappeared, and his tail grew shorter. His frame became thinner as well, although the muscle density still stay the same.
The most notable difference this far however, would be his right arm.
The thing seems to be enveloped in molten rock and lava, with sharp red claws protruding out from the tips of his finger, as if Murdoch just recently killed Satan and took his right arm as trophy by attaching it to himself
She paused
'Well, it's probably what happened' She is talking about Murdoch here. When it comes to (Y/n) and his pack, nothing is impossible, saves for impossibility itself
"Hey" She greeted him, narrowing her eyes "Though it may seems prudent to ask, Where did all the Grimm living here go?"
Murdoch's eyes narrowed in thought, as though she just asked him where he last put his laundry, before it widened
"Why, we killed them for training of course" He shrugged "They make for good practice partners, plus more will come in 24 hours, so there's nothing for you to worry about"
Well, She should have expected this to be honest.
After all, by killing and consuming other Grimms in here, one can become stronger physically, and their chances of getting an Evolution increase as well. It is a system befitting of their nature, only the strongest gets to survive and grow, while the weak are trampled without mercy from the start
(Though she did remember (Y/n) calling it 'exp' and 'level up' instead, for some weird reasons she could not understand)
But, calculating the amount of Grimm present in here, the types of Grimm they are, the rate at which they are killed, and the rate in which they are refilled, assuming they have been training non-stop for the past 5 days continuously, and also assuming the flow of time here is parallel with the real world, Helen could see that roughly no less than 25,000 Grimm have been killed in the process
That is almost enough to guarantee a minor evolution by itself
"Where is Alistair though? I haven't seen her yet"
He pointed his finger behind Helen, at the same time she felt something hurtling toward her with great speed from behind, accompanied by the blazing heat typical of a fire-based spell
In a swift motion, the slime drew her katana from it's sheath and sliced the fireball coming toward in half without looking. The two halves sailed past Murdoch's head and exploded in the distance, but the Grimm isn't that concerned about it
"Ohayoo, Helen-san!" the Grimm greeted her with an all too cheerful face as she turned around "It's a beautiful day outside, isn't it?"
The fox sure has matured since the last time they meet. Instead of the usual two, she now had three proud tails waving behind her, a sign of her recent evolution. Alistair's face lost some of it's cuteness from last time, replaced by a more mature and sensual look to her. Her body is now more well-developed in certain areas as well, enough to attract the opposite sex just by standing near them.
Just as expected of a Kitsune, she certainly is built to fit for the role of a seductress
"Alistair" Helen rolled her eyes, returning her blade back to it's sheath "The hell would you do that for?"
"Sorry, it's just a prank" She grinned in response, though her eyes couldn't hide the cold, calculative look behind it "I thought it would be funny to scare you for a bit. You slimes are scared of fire, don't you?"
"Not scared, just annoyed" She corrected, albeit a bit too challenging in her response. That earned her a raised eyebrow from the other girl "That thing isn't enough to hurt me, you know"
"Yeah sure" The vixen smiled at her as she offered the slime a seat on one of the nearby rocks "Anyway, what are you visiting us for? Did (Y/n) want us to regroup?"
The last part was said with some hope in it
Helen shook her head, much to the two Grimm's disappointment
"I'm simply here to check if you really grown stronger" She admitted "I was bored from training alone out there, so I thought it would be interesting to join you here"
"Speaking of (Y/n), I want to know what big bro's been up to!" Murdoch piped up from behind, drawing both of their attention "What did he do after we returned here?"
She thought about it for a moment, before sighing
"I think you two should take a seat"
<><><><><><><><><><><>
"HE WHAT?!" Murdoch yelled, apparently freaking out "ATTACKING THE HUNTSMAN HEADQUARTER? KILLING THE PIRATE LORD? BECOMING THE MOST WANTED CRIMINAL IN ATLAS? JUST WHAT THE HELL IS BOSS THINKING, LEAVING US OUT ON THE FUN LIKE THAT?!"
He shakily held the wanted poster in his hand, which has the word 'The Grim' printed on it. Underneath the familiar 'Dead Or Alive' is a staggering bounty: 150,000,000 Lien, higher than even Gangplank himself
"I think you already know the answer to those question" Helen said as she took a sip of tea from her cup "Say, Alistair, this is some excellent tea you have here. Did you mixed it in with some children's blood perhaps?"
"You would be correct"
"Ah, I would expect nothing less from this exquisite taste" She sighed in bliss, throwing the cup away "What are you thinking, anyway? You look bothered"
The Gumiho stared off into the distance with a deep look on her face, as if contemplating something. Gradually, she could see her eyes getting darker with each passing moments, then it softens slightly
Seeing that fox-type Grimms are usually the most intelligent amongst their kind, it wouldn't be a surprise that she must be thinking about (Y/n)'s plan right at this moment. Even now Helen could feel the gears in her head turning with incredible speed, trying to comprehend his every action and goals to the most-minimal of details
"I see" She whispered softly "So that's how it is..."
"It seems you have figured it out as well" The slime nodded
"Figure out what?" Murdoch looked between the two, confused as usual "What are you talking about?"
Alistair looked up at the moon hanging above their head, slowly mulling out the details of (Y/n)'s actions, before smiling slightly
"It has been a part of his plan from the start"
That much is obvious
After all, everything that exist is a part of (Y/n)'s plan, everything he do is a part of his plan, every words he said is a part of his plan. Every action is left with a clear sense of purpose, and nothing is what it seems at first glance, not even the vaguest of things should be left out of consideration when it came in contact with the Grimm
"The attack on the Headquarter is effectively killing three birds with one stone. He caught the government's undivided attention, released the Grimm children to spread further chaos across the human world, while simultaneously turning himself to the public to view him as a heroic figure, to which we all know is just a deception on his part. There's nothing special about it, seeing as it's only just the beginning" She said, resting her tails on one of the nearby boulders
"By catching their attention and getting labeled as a criminal, he completed act 1 of setting his foot into the world, 'first impression is important' and all that. The contradictory nature of the government's and public's view regarding him should be a fine stepping stone for stage 2, further weakening the military through their civil war and bolstering his image among the populace, thus lead to a crumble in the system that will later help him in taking over it"
Alistair tapped her fingers against the hard surface of the stone she's sitting on "Which lead us to act 3, where the remaining factors from act 1 will came to play. He upsurped the underworld by killing one of their Kings, thus entering his alias 'the Grim' into the table of the bigshots. Earlier, you said that he's heading toward what seems like Menagerie, so we can conclude that he's planning to cause another uprising amongst the Faunus people, for unknown purpose that is"
"But I know that once Faunus are mentioned, you can't not bring in the existence of the SDC, which is my next guess to act 4. He's either going to infiltrate it from the inside and crumbling it one by one until it collapses, or he's going to use the traditional method of utilizing the support of the public and the people of Menagerie (Not mentioning his own men after becoming the Pirate Lord) to apply pressure on them until they are recognized"
"The Schnees will have two choice: Cutting ties with the Atlesian government, which is slowly losing everyone's support, and suffered the backlash of losing their biggest customer, or they can continue supporting them and risk damaging their reputation further. By doing this, he will successfully eliminate the three biggest obstacles in his conquest for dominance, that being the company itself, the military, and the Underworld"
"Another point I would like to make is the Grimm children. If I have to guess, (Y/n)'s planning to turn them into his own private militia, capable of doing anything he orders them to thanks to their high Grimm capabilities and human intelligence. If what Lady Salem just recently told me was true, then there's that chance of him forming a religion as well"
Helen briefly contemplated the mental image of (Y/n) sitting on a throne, while hundreds of children gathered at his feet as they began to sacrifice virgin's blood to him. Chanting 'Blood to the blood god' over and over again while they are doing it
Starting your own religion...sounds like an interesting thing to do actually
"Act 5 is pretty much a mystery to me, although I think it would be where he finally gained his place as the ruler of Atlas and spread his influence toward the rest of the world through both political and...other unknown means" She crossed her legs "Depends on which Kingdom he wants to take over first. Vacuo with their elite military force and hidden treasures from past times. Mistral with their vast resources and ancient magic, or Vale, seeing as it's the headquarter of the Wizard"
"One thing is for sure. By the time we managed to become the Deadly Sin, he would have taken over the world already"
With that, the kitsune finished her explanation to both of them
"Sasuga (Y/n)-sama!" Murdoch yelled, although he had no idea what they were talking about
The other two laughed at his cluelessness
"But, thinking about it now, we haven't done anything to help him, have we?" Alistair's laughed faded, her mood did a 180 as a depressing aura started surrounding her "Ever since we became a part of his pack, he's been managing things alone by himself"
"What do you mean?" Helen went to sit down next to her, concern in her voice
"What did he tell us to do before he said goodbye to us?"
"I will leave each of you on your own, not because I want to abandon you, but because I want each of you to learn about this world through your eyes, to become stronger and prove your usefulness to me. Do it, and I shall accept you as worthy of being my servant" She recited the phrase, word by word, as though it was uttered just mere moments ago
"That means he doesn't think of us as useful to him, (Y/n) truly believed that if we were to follow him in that state, we would simply be a burden, or worse, getting ourselves killed in the process"
"When he disbanded the pack, it is implied that we are still too weak for his standards, and as such we are useless to him" A bitter laugh escaped from her "To be honest, I've felt quite hurt at the time, but after spending sometime thinking about it, I realized that he's not wrong. In fact, (Y/n)'s more than right in saying that to us"
"Our parents could destroy mountains with a punch, split rivers apart with a mere chop of their hand, and clear out massive armies of human with effortless ease. They are the strongest of their kinds" She threw out her hands "Compare to them, we're nothing! NOTHING! As their child and future heir, shouldn't we be ashamed for being so incompetent? Is it right of (Y/n) to dismiss us because of that reason?"
"Yes, absolutely" She put her hands down, her ears deflated like a puppy being kicked "He has every rights in the world to do that. After all, what uses are we if we can't even fight for him? In his eyes, we must have been like deadweight hanging on his shoulder"
"Now that I think about it, how did he even accept to putting up with us in the first place?"
"That's because he cared for you" Helen said "(Y/n) considered you to be his family. He trained you so that you can become stronger, he guide you step-by-step with infinite patience, because he genuinely believed you could be become better than your parents. He placed his trust on you"
"And we did fucking nothing to earn that trust!" She sighed "Sorry, I just...it just frustrates me greatly when something I did is not met up to his expectations"
Disgust? Hatred? She could bear those feelings from him, but disappointment? No. Never, not when (Y/n) had been so confident in her
"Our parents didn't become the strongest in 5 days, Alistair. It is a process that requires hundreds of years to obtain, you should know that"
"Which is exactly the point, Helen. If it really takes hundreds of years for us to get stronger, why would (Y/n) suddenly disband the pack like that?" She bit her lips "My only guess is that he had prepared something that would require our assistance in the future, otherwise he wouldn't have done that"
"That's why I was feeling so down. What if the next time we meet, I'm not strong enough for him for when he need me? Will he still accept me as a part of the pack, or will he abandon me?"
While she said this, Alistair twiddled with her fingers. As strong and intelligent as she may be, the Gumiho is too conscious about her own abilities, always comparing herself to others and finding herself to be unsatisfactory
Murdoch and Helen stayed silent. They too, don't know what they should say to the fox Grimm, because they felt pretty much the same. Helen, though as reserved as she was, is actually the most worried of them all
In the Grimm world, the concept of a 'friend' does not exist. To them, there exists only a handful of relationships: Prey, Family, or Mate (Often time it could be mixed up, as some species of Grimm have very bizarre traditions in hunting and mating)
(Y/n) cannot be her family, since he is not tied to her by blood
He cannot be her prey, as the other Grimm is stronger than her several times fold, enough to disarm her with his tongue alone
He cannot be her mate, since she isn't capable of breeding at this age
Helen's feelings for him were complicated, to say the least. Care? Love? Kindness? Is it some kind of food? If so can you eat them? Or if it's actually a weapon, can you kill people with it? She does not know how to respond when he had proclaimed all of them as his "pack". Does that mean he considered them as his 'family', or 'friends'?
As creatures of darkness who have to survive on their own, such concepts are lost on them
Friends. A mutually beneficial relationship with mutual trust on both side, usually based on a condition which tied them together like interests, backgrounds, or simply non-sexual/non-romantic affection to each other.
Affection. A "disposition or state of mind or body" that is often associated with a feeling of fondness or liking to another, usually expressed as a sincere sign of their love
....She don't understand. None of them do
It gives her head a migraine just thinking about it. If (Y/n) said he was only using them like pawns, Helen would have understand him completely, yet...it has to be because they're his "friends"
What kind of mind game is he trying to play with them? How can they possibly understand his motives if the Grimm can't even understand what this..."friend" means?
"I think it's still too soon for us to think about it" She muttered quietly, which earned the other two's attention "There's a more urgent matter I need to discuss with you two"
"What happened?"
"The Sin of Gluttony has escaped" Helen sighed "(Y/n) released her"
A sharp look flashed across Alistair's eyes "Why?"
It is no surprise that she should be this cautious. After all, they are talking about a Deadly Sin here, not a heir or a heiress, but a Sin, one that was deemed too dangerous by the others to the point of sealing her away. And now, for some reason, (Y/n) has decided to wake the monster up once again
"I don't know. One thing is clear however: She is after him"
Realization dawned on Alistair's face
"Don't tell me, it is a test that he is giving us?"
"A test that he put his life on the line for us" Her eyes turned cold "(Y/n) wants us to subdue Gluttony and turned her to our side"
"And how would you know that?" Murdoch tilted his head "For all we know, (Y/n) could have just accidentally-"
The two Grimm girls looked at him as both have irritated looks in their eyes
"Ah, right. Nevermind"
Helen sighed "From what he'd done up until this point, I'm pretty sure (Y/n)'s trying to get the 7 Deadly Sins, or their heirs, under his flag. So, wouldn't it make sense that he would release Gluttony and expected us to subdue her, thus risking his life in the process?"
"And even if he didn't plan on it, wouldn't this be our chance to do something for him, for once?"
No matter how strong he is, the Beowolf must have known that it's impossible to win against her who'd reached the highest evolution possible for a Grimm at his current level. That's why if the three of them could gang up on Gluttony, (Y/n) will get a new member to his ever-growing pack, and a powerful one at that
This is their ultimate test. A test of trust. A test of loyalty. And a test of strength. If they can match her in strength, if they can really match with a Dead Sin, then they are ready
Like a whisper, (Y/n)'s parting words drifted through their minds
"Do it, and I shall accept you as worthy of being my servant"
'(Y/n). Could it be that you had planned this the moment you said that?'
'Sasuga (Y/n). I would expect nothing less from the Heir of Pride'
'Ah. I have a feeling that's not what he meant when he said that, but oh well' Murdoch contemplated voicing his opinion, before deciding against it
It's not like any harm could be done from this anyway. The misunderstanding should resolve itself pretty soon
<><><><><><><><><><><>
Hmm
For some reason I have this urge to repeatedly bang my head against the ship's railing in frustration
It felt as if someone was badmouthing me, but several hundred times worse
Are they cursing me? Damning me to a fate worse than death? I don't know what I had done to deserve that treatment, but I really wish they would stop already
Considering the amount of shit I've gone through for the past few weeks, this should be enough punishment for a lifetime
"FIRE" Faintly, Carmine's commanding voice could be heard ringing across the deck, accompanied by shouting and the sound of several cannons going off
Meanwhile, Matsuo and me is playing a game of poker on the back of the deck. Since we are both close-ranged fighters, we're not that useful out there
...Actually that's a lie, my guns have an extended reach of over 200m and can be used to snipe targets from afar, but I'm just curious as to how real life sea combats are supposed to work without all that swashbuckling and cool-ass cannon often seen in movie
But, for some reason, I seems to have discovered another feature of my power, that being [EXP share]
Basically, I got to play while my teammates do all the hard work, but I still ends up receiving free EXP for some reason
You have leveled up! (68)
You have leveled up! (69)
You have leveled up! (70)
You have leveled up! (71)
Wow, being a leech sure is amazing! I can level up without even moving my hands! Maybe it's because I've unlocked sea combat, or maybe because my Aura is linked together with the Morningstar, thus allowing me to share the EXP it received? Hmm...
Meh, I don't care. Better not look a gift horse in the mouth
But, to be honest, I didn't think I would go to Menagerie like this, riding on a sentient boat of the famed Pirate Lord, with a crew consisting of Adam's brother (or father?) as the swordsman and Velvet's sister as the sharpshooter along the way. And let's not mentioning me, a Grimm, commanding these people as their captain, our black flags displaying proudly across the sails
It's like one of those childhood wet dreams I often have as a kid, being a power in the shadow with loyal and powerful subordinates by my side
"Matsuo, how far is it from here to Menagerie?"
"About 30km, I'd wager"
"Well, It's time then" I said as I stood up, with him following after
"Playtime's over" I said as I put on my Captain's hat, before pulling out Gangplank's severed head and looked'at it straight through where the eyes are supposed to be
"Gangplank, you ready buddy?"
The head chose to remained silent
Matsuo chose to ignore his captain
