Author's Note: I want to kill myself
<><><><><><><><><><>
"Yare Yare Daze..."
In the silence atmosphere of the lab, Cinder contemplated the absurdness of what they're about to do
An assault, in the middle of the night, and in the Huntsmen Headquarter no less. It certainly sounds like a death wish to the regular person, and it's no different to them. It's all a matter of perspective, she guess, to the children who'd been imprisoned and experimented on all this time, death would have sound like a much better alternative
In fact, if one were to cast away their first impression and really, really think about it, an assault would actually be the best solution to escape this place. As to the reason why:
First off, it would be nigh-impossible for over 80 children to sneak their way through the camp unnoticed. Even if they somehow managed to do it, there'd still be multiple surveilence cameras installed on the outside along with several layer of metal fence and barbed-wire at the top waiting for them; As if that's not enough, the only entrance to the place is a massive titanium gate, monitored 24/7 by the guards there and can only be open after the six radio towers positioned around the base had given permission to do so. In conclusion, stealth is out of the question
Secondly, they are smack-dab in the center of this headquarter, so an attack would actually be advangeous for them. It's obvious that no one would anticipate the enemy to be inside, much less in the center of it. Because of that, they had a slight advantage in this case, just a slight bit
But sometime, a small edge in battle could completely turn the table to their favor. All Cinder has to do is utilize the opportunity to it's maximum effect and they should, if they follow the plan accordingly, get out of this place with minimal casualties
She inhaled deeply, trying to calm her nerves. It has been stressful enough commanding that much amount of children, coupled with the fact that the responsibility of this operation fell squarely on her shoulder and Cinder was pretty much shaken to her core. What was (Y/n) thinking, putting her in charge of this thing like that?
What if she fucked up and got themselves all killed!?
Oh no, she's freaking out again
Clutching the cannon in her hand, which she'd nicknamed as 'Grimjaw', Cinder felt herself calming down as his words echoed in her mind, like ripples spreading across the surface of a river
"Have some confidence in yourself, girl. You are more capable of leading others than you thought"
Nobody in their right mind would say that
Cinder is sure, she is 99% sure, that he had already planned it all from the start
Think about it:
- (Y/n) never mentioned the reason why he was here in the first place
- He doesn't seem to be interested in anything rather than setting the Grimm hybrids free
Admittedly, the first two points would likely painted him as some sort of good guy who just want to help them for the kindness of his heart, just as he'd expected them to be. This was made easier by the children's mentality and circumstances of being isolated and abused. In fact, Cinder'd have believed that too have it not been for these little details she noticed
- He'd arrived at the lab only 1 hour after she was driven here, which is too close to be a coincidence
- If his intention is to rescue them all, why didn't he stay and fight with them? Instead (Y/n) just left after he'd successfully freed the children and gave them weapons, as if he doesn't want to actually do that himself
- Why would he put her, out of all the people there, in charge of the operation? He said it was because she's good at leadership, despite having never seen her in action before. Just what spurred him to put that much trust in her?
He definitely knows something about Cinder's origin. The evil doctor has remarked that she is special compare to her peers, that she had 'the mark', but he didn't tell her anything other than that. Could it be the reason why he was here?
If that's really the case then he's doing a damn good job of hiding it. She couldn't even gleam any trace of deceit in his eyes as he speaks. In fact, she couldn't even remotely see anything suspicious to begin with, it's as if he'd stumbled upon this place completely by accident, which the young girl's willing to bet isn't the case at all
Like that's not enough, he'd prevented her from voicing her qualms by earning the support of the children here. With just a few words he'd managed to instill loyalty into almost all of them in no time. He knew she was going to find out, so he'd made preparations for it. The moment Cinder shows any sign of misgivings or distrust toward his intention, the children would turn on her, causing her to be left behind and lost the chance to escape this place. This has effectively put Cinder in a deadlock where she couldn't do anything but to play along with his scheme
It's as if he'd predicted and countered all of her actions from the start. An instant checkmate. No matter how she played it, the result would still be the same is what he's trying to say to her. Frankly, Cinder has no doubt about that claim
A cunning individual, a devious mastermind, and a sly linguistic who could make people do his bidding even if they don't know it...that's what (Y/n) truly are under his charismatic facade. Someone who's always in control of the situation, who could read a person's innermost thought with a twitch of their fingers, a gesture of their eye, or a flick of their wrists and exploit them to the best of his advantage
If she hadn't been a cautious person at heart, Cinder would have surely been dancing in the palm of his hands right now
Or had she been doing so without knowing it?
"Subarashii..."
Her respect and admiration for this stranger's fearsome intellect begins to grow with every seconds she think about him
<><><><><><><><><><>
"Achoo!"
"Aaachooo!"
"AACHOOO!!!!"
In the corridor, a chain of schneezes could be heard, courtesy of a young Grimm in black
He looked left and right, but couldn't see anyone in the vicinity who is badmouthing him
(Y/n) sniffled and wiped his nose. Just as expected, the freezing temperature of Atlas is finally catching up to him
<><><><><><><><>
It was a beautiful night outside
The stars are shining bright upon the night sky, like a thousand gem in the black canvas of the universe
The earth is illuminated by the ethereal glow of the silver moonlight, peaking it's crescent face around the dark cloud's rift, like the eye of a demon staring into the soul of the damned through the cracks of hell
A silence hung in the air, it was a peaceful one, void of any unnecessary noises
Helen like it. She like these kind of nights
She had always found it easier to sleep when looking at the star-lit sky above, contemplating the meaning of her existence in this tiny, tiny world of them
At the same time, she thought about the ancient raging war between the human and Grimm, the blatant racism with the Faunus, and the internal conflicts among human themselves. Their origins began a long time ago, over a simple mistake, yet their descendant just can't seem to get rid of the old blood between them
Hatred will breed more hatred, as is the saying. It will just keep escalating in an endless cycle of war and destruction, never stopping...until everything is gone, everything they love, everything they fight for, everything they fight against...they will be all gone. What then, will be their purpose, when those they care about no longer exist?
Why do they live? Just to struggle? The pointlessness of it all baffled her. What did the Gods have in mind when they decided to create this world?
For a long time, she had been wondering about her cause in this world. The Seven Deadly Sins, the Silver Eyed Warrior, all creations are made to oppose each other, like life and death, light and darkness, like heat and cold, day and night. After all, those who praises the sun tends to forget about the shadow cast by it
Or at least, that's what Helen'd thought
And then she met (Y/n) Lucifer, or the prince of Pride
Yes, he is a...most interesting individual indeed
An Aura that demanded respect and submission, it was the air of a king who regarded those around him as inferior to even grace his presence. It does not matter what sides you are on or what you are, all will bow to him and swear their eternal loyalty...as they are expected to be
It was then, she understand. Helen Belphegor realized the truth
(Y/n) is a God, and the sole reason they are made...is so that they can serve him
Her beliefs are further strengthen as she learned of the secret, there can be no doubt
Light is not absolute
Darkness is not absolute
Everything is irrelevant to him, for He is absolute
(Y/n) Lucifer....is the one who stands above all, and he'd decided it's time to conquer this world
Naturally, as a member of his pack, Helen is inclined to help him in that regard
<><><><><><><><><><>
"Achoo!"
"Achoooo!"
"AACHOOOOOO!"
<><><><><><><><><><>
The Midnight Operation has begun. They are now already in their employed position, waiting for her order
The children has been divided into main groups: Scout, Heavy, Assault, Sniper and Suicide Bombers
Just kidding, no Suicide Bombers are required for this...not yet. While they would be effective for clearing large area of enemy, the chances of those children bomb hurting their own allies is too much of a risk to take
"Uh, chief? Why are you smiling like that?" A concerned girl said to the side. She is the one who receive reports from the children and convey that to Cinder, just consider her to be a secretary of sort
"It's nothing" She said, forcing herself to return to her neutral expression "How are they doing?"
"The first step of the plan seems to be going well, the Scout division has finished taking care of the guard inside this compound. They are currently searching the ground floor for any remaining guards that might noticed the noises above"
"What about the snipers?"
"The Sniper Division has moved on to the balcony. It is as we have planned, they are now in the process of preparing themselves" The girl said as she handed Cinder a transmitter
She switched the radio's channel
"Sniper Division, how's everything from your end?"
"This is Glaz reporting, we'd finished the setup. The night is clear and there's no wind, so we are currently having an advantage. It seems to be going well for our part"
"Glad to hear that" She said and switched the radio one more time
"Heavy, Assault, status report"
"Chief! You won't believe what we found under here!" A loud voice sounded out from the other end, loud enough that she has to hold the radio far away from her ears in order not to become deaf
"What did you find?" She asked curiously
"Mecha-Tanks! Four of them in fact!"
"I'm sorry what?"
"Mecha-Tanks! They're Mechs, but they're also tanks"
Ah, of course, the two-in-one weapon building rule of Remnant. If it's a kitchen knife, it must be a katana, if it's a katana, it has to be a gun, if it's a gun, it needs to be another gun
She has no idea why that rule existed in the first place
"...Do any of you know how to drive a, ahem, Mecha-tank?"
Cinder swore she could hear the boy shrugged on the other line
"They're tanks, how hard could driving them be?"
"You..."
"Chief, if I may?" Another voice said. It was captain of the Assault Division, a young boy named Thatcher. He'd been put in charge due to his ability to make tactical decision in critical moments, a trait that could prove useful in the leading role of tonight
Apparently no one had bothered to tell her Thatcher is a fucking mad lad
"I think it would be best if we can take control of these tanks. The vehicles will be effective in stopping enemy sentry and reduces our mortality rate when the assault begins"
He has a point. Still, Cinder is unsure if putting a dozen of children into a clump of metal is a good idea. For one, speed is a crucial point in this operation, and they are effectively wasting time trying to control something that will considerably slow down their progress. Two, by grouping them together in such a tight space, they are risking their lives against anti-tank rifle, grenade launchers, flashbang and smoke grenades, which is kept in the armory-
Wait
Oh
Ohhh
Ohhhhhhhhhh
(Y/n) you sly bastard! So this is what you had in mind all this time? She was right to assume there's more to him than he looks
"Alright, change of plan...."
<><><><><><><><><><>
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
I wiped my nose in annoyance
It's really cold in here
I should probably moved somewhere warmer once I get out of here, preferrably Menagerie, where it's sunshine and catgirls all year. It would make the perfect holiday spot, if it wasn't for the, you know, Faunus vs Human death battle currently going on there
Speaking of humans-
"You know I can see you right? I am the shadow, hiding in it is useless against me"
There was silence, before a slow clap echoed in the empty corridor of the compound. From the shadow, a man in black stepped out as if he had always been there. He donned a mask on his face and a sword by his side. There was a cold aura around him. Somehow, I instinctively know that is the aura of a killer. The chill that ran down my spine agreed with me
"To have detected my presence like that...you are no normal intruder aren't you?"
"Um...no, I'm just a normal guard around here. The name's Timothy, but them old soldiers often calls me Little Timmy, nice to meet you"
The air between us become colder, and I realized that my bullshit was spotted
Damn it, where's my luck when I needed it
"Nice to meet you, Timmy. My name is Reaper, now die"<><><><><><><><><>
"Oi, Thatcher, you done there mate?"
Flipping the manual closed, the boy grunted in affirmation
"It's a little complicated and requires 4 to 5 people to man, but I think I've gotten the general idea of it"
"Right, you heard that chief? We're gonna blast some ass with these babies!"
Cheers erupted from above, courtesy of the children in the Assault Division
"Calm down, everyone" He raised his hands "Let's see what our leader has anything tov say about it"
"Much appreciated Thatcher" Came Cinder's voice through the transmitter "I believe you've had it all sorted out?"
"Of course"
"Well done. Phase 2 of the plans have been completed, your job now is to launch an assault on every side of this building, except for the North-East one"
"Why not?"
"It's the main entrance to this place, so it's pretty fortified there. I heard several Huntsmen has been dispatched to guard that place, attacking them would not be a good idea" There was a pause on the other end, before it sink in for him
"Wait, isn't that the direction (Y/n) had left off?"
"Correct, our commander had, in fact, anticipated this and take several countermeasures against the enemy's defense" She smiled "Furthermore, he'd make sure their only means against tanks has been taken away before they can be used"
"Wait, you mean to tell me that these weapons we had in hand...they are the soldier's backup supply?"
"What else could they be?"
"And you mean to tell me that (Y/n) had planned it all from the start?"
"It's not hard for a person with such level of intelligence"
"Incredible...." He muttered, before turning to the other kids and yelled angrily
"You guys heard that? (Y/n) had taken such steps to make sure we don't die, you better off not disappointing him!"
"Nein, we won't!"
"Hail (Y/n)! Hail for his eternal glory!"
"Hail (Y/n)!"
"Hail (Y/n)!"
"Hail (Y/n)! Hail (Y/n)!"
"Hail (Y/n)! Hail (Y/n)! Hail (Y/n)! Hail (Y/n)! Hail (Y/n)! Hail (Y/n)!"
The hall erupted with cheers from the freed Grimm Hybrids. Somehow, Thatcher could feel this is the beginning of something great, something extraordinary, something....world-changing
<><><><><><><><><><>
Cinder sighed as she heard them on the other side. Disconnecting the radio, she leaned back on her chair
As per her order, the Scout Division are now placing dynamites on the planned location, the Sniper Division is now locked and loaded, ready to support the Assault team. Heavy team, which has been equipped with armor, will take the first charge to ensure minimal casualties on their side
Now they just need to wait several minutes for the check-up before Cinder can detonate the bombs
She glanced at the clock on the wall, it's 12:55. Only 20 minutes had passed, but it felt like an hour to the young girl. The stress is killing her
"Surely, without the help of (Y/n), there would be no chance for us to escape this place..."
"Did someone just mentioned my son?"
BANG!
In less than a blink of an eye, she whipped around and shot the intruder with her rifle. Smokes billowed out from the muzzle, obstructing her vision for several seconds. For a split moments, Cinder could swore two demonic set of eyes stared back at her through the vapor
A chill suddenly went down her spine as the smokes dispersed, revealing a white-haired woman with crimson eyes wearing a black robe. Her eyes are the same as the Grimm, and right now, those very same eyes are narrowing at her
However, what caused Cinder to be on high alert is the fact that the bullet didn't hit the woman, even when fired at such a close range with such great velocity. In fact, she had avoided the projectile with less than a second of reaction time
No, she didn't just avoid it, she caught it with her hand
This woman caught a bullet with her fucking hand
"The Mauser Tankgewehr M1918, a weapon often used by tank hunters during the Great War period" The woman casually remarked as she rolled the bullet between her fingers "It is rumored to be able to kill a S-class Harbringer with one shot, and as much as I hated to admit it, that claim is not entirely false"
She dropped the hollow shell to the ground
"Now..." The temperature around them become colder "Where is my son?"
"Like I'm going to tell yo- Wait, you said (Y/n) is your son?"
The woman seems to be intrigued by this, as the atmosphere surrounding them become normal again. Cinder secretly breathed a relieved sigh at this
"Then how come you know his name?"
The girl hesitated, she looked at the woman before her with some caution. She is obviously not a soldier here judging from her appearance, and the fact that she hadn't sound the alarm further solidified her belief that the female's not an enemy
"Well..."
<><><><><><><><><>
I have to admit, ever since I came to this world there hasn't been a lot of strong enemies I've encountered
Murdoch and Alistair doesn't count since they're my allies, I don't think they're going to seriously attack me even if I ordered them to actually do it anyway
Helen is a maybe since she is pretty neutral toward me. I haven't got a chance to spar with her, but the slime's ability hinted toward a high-mobility Assassin build that deals Burst damage, something I'm pretty weak against
Summer is the only opponent worth mentioning. That woman would have killed me with her Silver Eyes had I not experience an Evolution at the last second. It is thank to luck that an Evolution is often coupled with a total regeneration of HP, and Summer was already worn out fighting against me. This give me an unfair advantage against her
I'd like to know how I will fare against her in an all-out fight though, especially now that the woman has been turned into a vampire
But the point still stand that I haven't had a battle to the death, the anime kind, the kind where both sides spills out epic attacks and often ends up with a bunch of fillers and flashbacks and one of them dying, but mostly the anime kind.
Most of my opponents up until this point has only been prey to me. They are too weak, their abilities are the only useful things about them. But this guy, this Reaper...
He's strong
"!!!"
I ducked down in time to avoid getting decapitated by my opponent's blade. It was a pitch black sword, as black as the night, and several time more dangerous
He spun around, using the momentum of the previous strike to delivered another slash to my ankles. I jumped up, avoiding his blade by inches
The weapon shifted into a pulse rifle, aiming at me who was still airborne
[Double Jump]
My opponent doesn't anticipate me to jump midair, so the bullet's trajectory easily passed by me
Or so I thought
The projectile easily bend itself and changed it's direction to me, making me twisted around to dodge it another time. My instinct flared up as I sensed a second bullet coming my way. This time I waited until just before the moment of impact and tilted my head, so that it collided with the first bullet midair, effectively cancelling each other out
'I used the bullet to destroy the bullet'
As I landed, my opponent gave a round of hearty applause
"Just as expected" He praised "That dexterity isn't something you can see everyday, especially when you're a Huntsmen. It will be a challenge killing you, intruder"
"The same can be say to you, Reaper. I'm going to have a lot of fun eating you"
The masked man, Reaper, simply chuckled before dashing toward me again with his blade drawn
But I was prepared this time. Pulling Blitz and Pulse out, I started raining bullets on him
"Die, die, die, die!"
The man twisted and turned, deflecting and dodging bullets left and right like a pro Genji. His steel blade sliced through my Aura bullets with ease
In just three steps, he had already crossed the distance between us with no effort. The man raised his blade as he dashed up, ready to cleave me in half with his longsword
I smiled and pulled the trigger
BANG!
Suddenly Reaper's eyes widened as I shot him at point-blank range, making him halted mid-dash. The bullet wasn't deflected, it wasn't dodged, because it was too fast for the normal eye to see. As such, the man recoiled as it hit his shoulder
'Ugh, there wasn't any blood, so why do I feel so much pain' He tried to move his arm, only to found out that he couldn't
The surprise attack left Reaper open and vulnerable. Using the opportunity, I pistol-whipped him across the face and kicked him into the wall. The impact created a large noise, as a spiderweb crack began to form where he lied
I winced, so much for getting out of here inconspicuously. As it is now, I have no choice but to go all out and end this fight before reinforcements come
Reaper slowly got up from the crater. Stretching his limb, he gave me an inquiring look
"That thing, what is it that you'd just used?" I snorted at his question
"As if I'd answer that, dumbass"
This isn't a Shounen Manga!
But truth to be told, I didn't really expect it to work. Turns out I can now combine two of my skills to create another one
Ding!
You have created [Phantom Bullet] through the combination of [Gun Mastery], [Aura Manipulation] and [Lesser Shadow Manipulation]!
[Phantom Bullet]: Inflict Paralysis and Slow on your opponent. Can not be blocked or deflect
Using the bullet mechanic of this gun, I mixed my Aura and the shadow magic in my body to create another type of ranged attack that doesn't include me spitting poisonous acid, and it fucking worked
Ha, all this time I could have just done that, and I didn't. What a waste of ability. Well, if this work, surely I can do it with others
BANG
"Guh!" He stumbled back, clutching his right arm in pain as the crimson bullet lodged itself into it. He quickly pulled the bullet out, causing a jet of blood to spatter on the wall
Ding!
You have created [Lifesteal Bullet] by combining [Gun Mastery], [Aura Manipulation] and [Lesser Blood Manipulation]
[Lifesteal Bullet]: You recovered a certain amount of health when your bullet hit the enemy. Extremely high chance of inflicting bleeding damage to your opponent
BANG BANG BANG BANG
Reaper seems to have gotten a hang of it as he dodged the black bullet, while deflecting the red one. I don't care if it hits or not, only that I am forcing him to go on the defensive
Although, if I keep going at this rate...I'm gonna run out of Aura to heal myself
After a few seconds of pointless shooting, I finally grew impatient. The man seems to be doing well on his own, and time is slowly running out on my side. It's obvious that I has to end this quick
'Ah fuck it'
Switching both of my guns to blade mode, I launched myself at Reaper. He lunged back at me with insane speed in return, causing both of us to fell into a fierce blade lock, fire sparked through the air as we did so
"I'll admit, you are better than I expected, intruder" He said through gritted teeth as we struggled to overpowered one another "It seems I'll have to go serious with you now"
He kicked me away and made a handsign. Before I could wonder what jutsu he's gonna cast, two clones popped into existence. One transformed his weapon into a gun, one to a sword, and the last one pulled out two daggers from his waist
I blinked
Huh...
I wonder if I can eat those clones
<><><><><><><><><>
"Yare Yare Daze...."
Salem sighed
She's been doing that a lot lately. What's with her son recruiting the Sin's heirs into his pack, burned down an entire village that makes terrible vodka, and now he's attempting to rescue a bunch of Grimm children on top of it
As if that's not enough, he also put this girl as the leader of this insane operation
It makes her wondered if (Y/n) really know about Cinder Fall's origin at all. Out of all the people here, he has to choose the Wizard's daughter as his target.
Could it be that there's more than one reason for her son to escape the castle? Salem didn't like that thought
Just how did he know about the disappearance of the other Heir? How can he know about Ozpin's lost blood, whom he has cast away? How can he know it all? It is impossible. Unless....
She scowled. Unless he'd secretly listened to her subordinate's conversation and deduced out the rest. If that's the case then he'd likely planned this all out several years ago when the first of them started disappearing.
Salem doesn't know if she should be angry or proud of her son for doing that
The buzzing of a nearby radio pulled her out of her thoughts. The Wizard's child, who is sitting near her, picked it up
"Chief? We want to tell you that everything has been set. The bombs had been planted. Every Division is waiting in their respective places. It's all up to you now to call the shot"
The child seems to hesitate, as her eyes flickered between Salem and the radio, seemingly unsure of something
"What is it, Cinder Fall?" She asked with an amused smile, already knowing what's about to come
"Uhm...since you seems kind of powerful, what's with blocking a bullet with one hand and all, would you mind...would you mind giving us some support?"
She raised an eyebrow, to which the girl raised her arms in alarm
"I don't mean you have to risk your life saving them or anything, you just need to keep an eye on the battle for us, or give assist us from afar if you can, it's no big deal!"
"No big deal?"
For a moment Cinder really thought it's going to be the end of her as a shadow enveloped the scary woman's face, before it revealed to be a smile, a genuine smile
A genocidal smile
"I would love to. It's been such a long time since I've participate in an event as this one"
[Dark's Blessing]
[Larger Grimm Summoning: Elder Wyvern]
[Mass Grimm Summoning: Nevermore]
[Hell's Gate], open
[Dark Magic Level 1: Bloody Harvest], activate
<><><><><><><><><><>
An aura of despair washed over me and Reaper, freezing both of us in place
"What the fucking hell?" I murmured, looking outside the window of the compound
The sky outside is getting darker...darker...yet darker...
Nightmarish silhouette illuminate in the moonlight. Somehow, I felt as if the apocalypse is about to befall on us
<><><><><><><><><><>
Author's Note: Aaaaaaaaaaaand done! Sorry for the long wait, but your dinner's ready, sir!
So in case you don't notice, I altered a few plot point here and there, introduce some new characters that may or may not be important in the future, and brainstorm a lot of things for future chapters. I probably planned, like, 20 chapters ahead at this point. It would only be a matter of whether I can muster up the strength to write it or not
One thing I'm not sure about is the introduction of Reaper. I can see that a lot of you guys hates original character since they break your expectation of a fanfiction, what's with the original thing and all. But I'm going to tell you that he's gonna take a huge role in later chapters in helping (Y/n) conquering the world and, well, you can also expect a lot of misunderstanding about us on his part
For those who would like to question me about Helen's viewpoint of (Y/n), I know. Her perception and impression of him may be a huge leap in logic, but I'll make sure to fill that up for you guys later
With that said, I hope you enjoyed this chapter, and see you at a later time
