Author's Note: 5,000 words.....I've really outdone myself this time
Anyway, the next part will mark an end to out stay in Atlas. I'll probably spend the next few chapters after doing short interludes and timeskips alike to see what the other characters are doing. Hopefully I don't get a writer block like last time with Remnant's Gamer...
With that said, please listen to this amazing jazz opening of the old Hellsing anime. I've been listening to it for the 50th time this day now
<><><><><><><><>
God fucking damn it
"Just why did it have to turn out like this?"
It seems like I have severely underestimated the security they put in this place. I know there's probably a hundred of these guys just guarding a corridor alone but damn, I didn't know they'd react so fast
You are probably wondering just what happened to make me lose my cool like that. Well, allow me to explain it in brief details
Turns out maintaining myself in liquid form is harder than it looks, seeing that I had to reverted back to being human after three minutes. Maybe it has a duration or something, I don't know
Deciding that it was too troublesome to just wait until the cooldown's over, I decided to just go with it, there's no way they can notice me, right?
Big fucking mistake
So I was just looking for my way around the hallway (read: locating Dr.Evil's lab) when I bumped into this really nice guard. I pretended to be a Huntsmen and he seems to buy that. We have a friendly little chat, in which he asked me what I'm doing here
I told him I was looking for Dr.Evil
The next thing I know, I was staring straight at the barrel of the gun as he started threatening me to go back. Of course I didn't take kindly to that, so I just ripped his head off and swallowed it whole
You have learned [Skill: Close Quarter Combat (Basic)]: Allows you to learn basic moves in melee fighting
I have just taken him down . Obviously, when you attack an enemy in RPG games, there's a high chance you would aggro their allies which is nearby. This is extremely troublesome when you're playing solo, so just don't do it, either use CC on the monster or run away as fast as you can
Too bad I can't do either of them in this situation
"YOU THERE! WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?"
Before I know it, a whole battalion of troops came running down the hallway with their guns aimed at me
As you already know, shits started to get real messy on their parts
<><><><><><><><>
Cinder Fall struggled against the soldier's grip in a futile attempt to escape. However, their respective hold on her were too strong compared to her little body to actually do anything useful, aside from making them annoyed. Well, more annoyed than they already are that is
"Stay still, you monster!" One of them apparently got mad at her and struck Cinder across the face. The impact leave a stinging pain on her cheeks where the hit connected
Cinder slumped her shoulder. Not for the first time of her life, she wondered just what horrible things have she done to deserve this treatment from them
Memories soon surfaced on her mind as she thought about the events that lead her to this current situation
(Flashback no Jutsu)
The girl has been birth in a peaceful village near the Kingdom's border before being abandoned at the orphanage there by her parents. For some reason, she had always been mistreated by children and adults alike when she was just a child
On a good day, they might insult her with something offensive like 'freak' and 'monster'. It was fine, Cinder can handle quite a bit of that, having gotten used to it a long time ago
But on a bad day, those insults that were hurled at her would turn to other things, things that are more violent than than just a few harsh word. The last time she remembered, the girl was beaten so badly that it's a miracle she could actually survive until the day after
And then there were the really bad days, in which they did....things to her
In short, Cinder Fall's life up until that point had simply been hell. Up until that point, at least...
One night, she woke up to a sea of fire. The village was burning, the children was screaming. Shadows of human corpses are etched on to the wall, as still as a rock save for the occasional flickering of the flame around them
There has been a Grimm attack. They ran across the streets, barging into houses and kills everyone who tried to hide inside. Just the sight alone would probably chilled a person to their very souls
One would think a normal child like her would felt fear in that situation. But Cinder isn't exactly a normal child, is she?
She'd watched with grim eyes, from the window of the orphanage, as those who'd tormented her all her life are now getting their just punishment. She reveled in their agonizing scream, in the way they get cut down mercilessly by those beast
While karma may be a bitch to some people. To Cinder Fall, it was a beautiful goddess in disguise who'd answered to her prayer of wrecking destruction in this terrible place
Of course, she'd already accepted her fate then. She'd knew that the monsters would soon reach her, and then her life will end there, just like everyone else.
Walking out of the building, she stood in front of the pack of Grimm. As expected, they turned their head and started to approach her with hungry expressions on their faces
This is it, Cinder'd thought, this is where she will die. Might as well get this over with
She stared straight ahead, unmoving. There wasn't fear in her eyes anymore, only acceptance as the Beowolves got closer, baring their bloody fangs at her
Never in her wildest dream would Cinder imagined the thing that happened next
Across the street, a dark figure blurred past the Grimm. Not a moment after that happened, they dropped to the ground like puppets whose strings had been cut, blood spilled out from their body, forming a mini river of red that slowly trickled down the burning street
The figure stopped moving just before her, revealing...a Beowolf?
She wondered then if she'd truly went insane because of the fear she felt of the situation
Why is a Grimm attacking another Grimm?
The monster towered over her like a mountain. It's eyes boring holes into the small human under it
Despite the situation, Cinder found herself surprisingly calm. Here she was, face to face with humanity's greatest enemy, yet the girl does not felt fear, only curiosity, and an odd sense of attachment toward it
She raised her hand toward the Beowolf, only to recoiled as it growled and turned around, before dashing down the street, killing more Grimm as it did so
"Hey, wait!" Cinder yelled, but it had already disappeared behind the buildings before she could even finish her sentence, leaving her alone in front of the burning orphanage
(Flashback ended)
And the next several days consisted of her running from the other Grimms, trying to survive outside the village and attempting to find that same Grimm she'd met, only to end in failure
It was when she's on the verge of dying that the local Huntsmen found her and brought her here. It wasn't out of sympathy, it was simply out of pure greed that they decided to keep her alive to take the bounty for themselves.
As she was brought to this supposed headquarter, Cinder finally learned just why she was neglected and abused all her life. The driver who drove her here had, with a rough voice and a lot of violence, informed her that she is a Grimm hybrid, an abomination that shouldn't have even existed in this planet of them
So that's why...From the start, she'd been nothing more than an outcast, no wonder they disliked her so much. It is only natural of humans to hate a monster like her.
The soldier's cold voice broke Cinder out of her short flashback, forcing her to look at the surrounding
They'd came to the end of the corridor, in which stood a tall metal door in front of them. The little girl gulped as she noticed the claw marks and dried up bloodstains that decorated the doors
Let's just hope this isn't too bad...
"We're here" He and the other pushed open the door. Before she could react, Cinder was roughly thrown inside without hesitation. The door was slammed behind her moments later, preventing her from getting out
There was complete silence in the room, not even the slightest of sounds can be heard in the dark space. That is, until a voice echoed out between the walls
"So, it seems like another one of my test subject has arrived" It whispered in a creepy manner "Welcome to my evil lair, dear. I hope you'll enjoy the stay here. If you don't, that's too bad, because you'll be here for a looong time to come~"
Oh who am I kidding, I'm fucked
<><><><><><><><>
Ah, so that's the reason why
No wonder I acted that way
Hmm? You're asking about what I'm currently thinking?
Remember that incident at the village square? You know, the one where I decided to go all genocide and kill everyone I see just so I can gain some EXP to level up?
Yeah, ever since that whole business, it had always been in the back of my mind every time I think about anything remotely related to Vodka, and there's one thing that I must say about it...
Just why the hell would I do that?
As ruthless as any of you would see me to be, I am not evil. Selfish, cowardly, stupid? Yes. Evil? No, at least not to the degree that I've shown while in the village
I don't think I have the mental capacity to eat a child alive in front of their parent anyway. No, that thought alone would have sent a shiver down my spine if it was me in my past life
As it is, I wasn't even bothered by it now. Up until that point, most things that crossed my mind are things that should not ever, in any circumstances, cross a sane person's mind, mostly because they would have surpassed the boundary for the human's morality to accept it
With that said. I have theorized that there are two main factor that contributed to this new immoral side of me, and it is related to my current condition, conditions, in fact, as there are more than one of them
The first factor is the [Devourer] ability that was given to me when I first enter this world, it enables me to eat literally anything without the usual moral backlash that comes after the process. This thing helped a lot with surviving for the first few days, seeing that most things I eat then tastes like a rotten pile of shit
While this skill does not outright makes me a psychopath, it does have a side effect of making me think of everything I see as nothing more than food that I can eat, or in other words, it gives me a Devourer's mindset, as expected of it's name
The second factor is something that I've been thinking about for a long time now. In most RPG, choosing a race would enables you to unlock new, unique skills that are only available to the class you choose. While this will grant you certain advantages over the other races in certain aspects, you will suffer what one would call a 'race penalty' to balance it out with your strong points.
Yes, as you can see, I'm blaming myself and whoever sent me here as Grimm for this. Everyone knows that Grimms are creatures of darkness, one that always seek death and destruction everywhere they go. It won't be a surprise that inhibiting a body of a Grimm will make me possess a tendency to leaned toward causing violence everywhere I go, as a penalty for my fast metabolism and superior speed compared to others
At least, that's what I thought was the reason for my sudden surge of sadistic pleasure back then, up until this point
There's one factor that I haven's count into the equation, however, and I think that it's the real reason why I suddenly gone crazy mode back then
It was the fact that I'm a Vampire
Ding!
[Blood Frenzy] has been activated!
[Blood Frenzy], probably one of the most troublesome penalty there is, combat-wise. The name is pretty self-explanatory
It was simple: The more blood I interact with, the stronger I get and my attack power will sore by leaps and bounds. It may sounds really overpowered at first, but this thing does come with a price, and a really costly price at that
It will make you enter a euphoric state in which you starts to kill everyone and everything in your sight indiscriminately
Like what I'm currently doing, for example
"MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHA" I laughed as I slammed a soldier's head to the wall, crushing his skull underneath his helmet. There was a squelching sound under my hand, and his brain oozed out from under it
All scattered around me were corpses of the soldiers who'd rushed me earlier. There were many of them, not gonna lie, but I'm stronger than all of them. In only less than a minute, I'd already leveled up 3 times!
Who'd have thought that killing one man would lead to this one hell of a grinding session?!
Ah, this feeling...it feels wonderful, like I'm currently high on over a hundred types of drugs at the same time
Another one tried to take me from behind with a knife, but I twisted out of the way at the last moment. Grabbing his holstered pistol, I aimed it at the man's head and fired
BANG!
[Headshot]!
Again, brain were spattered on the wall. The soldier fell down, as dead as his comrade. I turned to the remaining troops who were trying to flee the place
BANG BANG BANG BANG!
[Headshot]
[Headshot]
[Headshot]
[Headshot]
This is the fastest hand in the West, son!
BANG BANG BANG BANG
[Headshot]
[Headshot]
[Headshot]
[Headshot]
[You have leveled up]!
More brains got blown out
Seriously, this is like House Of The Dead, only, like, a hundred times more fun. You pulled the trigger, there was a 'bang' and their head just kind of exploded with a funny 'pop'
It was pretty nostalgic, to be honest. I remember playing that game with my brother when we were little, if only he could be here now
BANG BANG BANG

*click* *click*
It seems like the gun ran out of bullet
*sigh*
Fine, it's not like I need it anyway. Ripping apart enemies with your own hands are way more satisfying
Tossing the weapon aside, I sprinted at the newly-arrived squad of soldier and practically leaped toward them with a wide grin on my face
I tackled the first one and ripped out his throat with my jaw, leaving him screaming before I stomped his head flat on the floor
You have learned [Skill: Initiator]: The first attack that hits you deals half the normal damage. Can only be used once per fight
I rolled to the side to dodge a bullet and sprang up, snapping the neck of another one as I uppercutted him in the face with full force
A third one jumped to me from behind, a knife in his hand.
He should have known better than to do that after what happened to his friend
You have learned [Backstab]: Attack from behind have a 100% chance of dealing critical damage.
He fell down, a gaping hole at where his heart used to be, with me holding the still object in my hand, which I'd just take a bite from
"Freeze! Or we will open fir-" The captain was cut off as I dropped the heart of his men and pierced his chest with my palm, blood dripping out of it
I ripped out my hand, causing his blood to spill everywhere. Since I am the one who is standing in front of him, I ended up as the one who gets most blood on my body
Oh boy, all those ripping and tearing like that is making me pretty excited
"A-a...Ah" The soldiers surrounding us began backing away from me. They were rooted on their spot from fear, unsure of what to do after losing their leader like that
"Come on, shoot me, shoot me!" I yelled at the top of my lung, spreading both of my hands out. A crazy laugh escaped my mouth. I was high on blood, that's enough excuse for me to do anything I want
They flinched from the loudness of my voice. The soldier's hands started shaking, some of them already fainted on the spot out of fear
It was then that I realized I'm using [Menacing Eye] on them, having unconsciously activated it from the earlier excitement. They were probably fearing me because of my eye which is practically oozing with killing intent, all of which was aiming at them
No, that is no good. We can't have them all immobilized like that, can we?
I turned off my [Menacing Eye]. Causing some of them to regain their senses and began to frantically shooting at me. Through the rain of bullet, I only laughed, and laughed some more as my body is riddled with more and more holes as the seconds passed by
<><><><><><><><>
Finally the group of soldiers ceased their shooting. Some of them were standing still, waiting with baited breath as the smokes started to clear
It dispersed, revealing a mangled corpse lying there, a pool of blood gathered at his feet
A soldier sighed in relief as he spoke into his comm "Sector cleared, the intruder has been dealt with"
[Roger that, everyone return to their post. We'll take care of the bodies here] His superior told him through the loud radio, enough for everybody there to hear him
Lowering their guns, they nodded in response and turned back to leave, having calmed down somewhat from the recent events
"!!!!"
Suddenly all of them felt a strong pressure weighing on their soul. It was a primal feeling that screams at them to run for their own dear life, to abandon everything behind them and just get out of there as soon as possible. They started shaking in fear as a chill went down their spine
It was then that the soldiers heard a sound. It was a sound they did not expect to hear
It was the sound of laughter
And it was coming from the corpse
Or to be more exact, the corpse of the intruder which they'd just killed moments ago
He slowly rose up, his shadows flickered in the white electric lights of the hallway they're standing in. All of his wounds had somehow disappeared, leaving him looking completely unharmed and as if he hadn't even been shot just moments ago
Through the darkness of the hood covering the intruder's face, two sinister red eyes flickered open, staring straight into their souls
"It's my turn"
<><><><><><><><>
"Who are you?" Cinder called into the darkness with gritted teeth, her eyes narrowed in frustration as she can't seem to locate the source of the voice
That damned laugh sounded out around her again
From a shadow, a chair came forward. On it sat a fat man of about average height, with a bald head and cruel sharp eyes that seems to held a great amount of knowledge. He regarded her with clear amusement in his voice
"You are Cinder Fall, it says here in your file, is that right?" He asked with a kind smile
She does not trust that smile
"Indeed" The girl took a deep breath, before exhaling slowly "So, what could an old man such as you possibly be interested in a young girl like me, I wonder"
"I'm interested in your body"
Cinder's heart skipped a beat
"Or to be more exactly, the way your body works. Your anatomy, your souls, your special abilities...I'm interested in them all" He said with a smile "I want to learn how they work compared to us humans. Do they possesses emotions? Are they capable of developing a Semblance? How can they recover so fast when they obviously don't have Aura?. Those are the question I want to find out, and I will find out"
"Don't you found them fascinating, girl? They'd been a part of our world from an ancient time, some could say that they are the living relics of the gods. Yet, haven't it struck you as odd that we humans never understand much about them, only through bias viewpoints and old tales passed down from many generations ago by our superstitious forefathers? I, personally, think that we as a civilized and educated race would want to conduct more research about them. Yet, look at what we did. We treated them as monster! Do none of their stupid brain realized how powerful a force the Grimm would be if we can learn to tame, to control them? But I did, and all of them will understand just what a mistake they'd made when I marched to their front door with an army of monsters at my disposal. Oh the possibilities, this is genius!"
At the end of the speech, his smile had turned to a wide grin. It wasn't the cheery grin you'd often see on children, but rather one that would often be seen on a maniac's face at their trial
"And you, Cinder Fall, you are special. You have the mark!" He said fervently, pointing at her "You're different than the rest of the hybrids. Oh how I will have fun experimenting with your petite little body!"
To her horror, he started cackling like a madman while still in his chair, causing it to swayed lightly
Cinder turned back and sprinted toward the titanium door which she'd just been thrown into several minutes ago. She tried to pull the handle, but it wouldn't budge even a centimeter. She banged and banged her fist on the cold hard edge of it, but to no avail. No matter what she tried, the damned thing would just stood there motionlessly. It obviously have been reinforced to resist against superhuman strength
Giving up on escaping, she turned toward the still smiling scientist with a defeated look in her eyes
"...And just what" She asked warily "Are you going to do with that knowledge you gained?"
"Hmm, I will first try to use that knowledge and find a way to clone or reproduce Grimm, then I will create an army of them, once the number started going up, that will be when I have enough manpower to outman any Kingdom that might resist my power. After that...who knows, maybe I'll try conquering the world for a change"
He fell into a round of laughter again
"Anyway, since our introduction time's over, i think it would be better for you to go to bed"
"What bed?" She asked cautiously
He didn't answer, instead bringing out a hand and flicked on the lights
"!?"
Her eyes widened in shock
What in the world is this!?
Cinder's bent down, trying not to vomit at at the sight that greeted her when the lights are on
Illuminated on both sides of the walls are glass cages. Inside those cages are sleeping children, most of them only about 8 to 10 years old. They are cuddled together, like animals in an industrial farm.
The abnormal things about them is that each of these children has a part of Grimm on their body. Some have hands with claws protruding out of them, some have black wings growing out from their back, while others either have tails or horns that resembles some kind of Grimm she'd seen before
They are just like her
They all looked malnourished, starving and possibly broken. There's this look on their faces that indicated most of them had simply given up on this whole situation altogether
Will she become just like one of them? Back to her old life, only with a new cage and new roommates?
So shocked at this revelation that Cinder didn't even resist when the scientist called on his guards to bring her to her cell. She didn't even feel the pain as they throw her into another separate chamber to the rest
The lights turned off again, and Cinder found herself in complete darkness
No...
Fate had given her a chance to escape that village, only for her to get caught again. A life for another life is what it seems to be trying to tell her
No
As if she would accept that
Cinder clenched her fists and gritted her teeth in frustration at this situation. Her amber eyes burning with malicious rage
If there's one thing the girl has to say about it, it's that she won't accept this unfairness. All her life, she had been treated terribly, beaten, insulted and violated, al because of what? Her race? Does a child deserve that just because they have an eye similar to Grimms?
If they'd decided to be unfair with her, she will be unfair with them
She will have their revenge on these people, and she will watch them burn
<><><><><><><><>
[You have leveled up]
[You have leveled up]
[You have leveled up]
[You have leveled up]
[You have leveled up]
"Hello sir, can I ask you something”
[Go ahead, soldier]
"I kind of forgot the direction to Dr.Evil's lab, please tell me where I can find it. He told us to bring him the corpse of the intruder to him for, uh, experimentations"
[Walk along this corridor and turned left at the second intersection, there'll be a sign that said "Doctor Evil's Extremely Evil Lab" or the EEE for short, just go straight until you see a metal door with claw marks and bloodstains on it, knock on it 3 times and he shall receive you]
"Was all of the Grimm hybrid being kept there, sir?"
[Yes, but you need not to worry. The doctor made sure to keep them under maximum security so you'll be fine]
"Understood, and, uh...One more question"
[Yes?]
"Where can I find the weaponry? Some of us ran out of bullets earlier when dealing with the intruder"
[Oh, it's next to the EEE. Just don't take the grenade launchers. Those are for emergencies only]
"Understood, have a nice day sir"
[Have a nice day, soldier]
The radio was promptly dropped to the ground before being crushed under my foot
I inhaled deeply the scent of death that lingers in the air around me, the source of which is the sea of corpses laying at my feet
With the ways things are, it would only be a matter of hours before somebody found the dead bodies and sounded the alarm. Let's stretch the time a little and say that two hours will pass before they finally noticed the soldier's absence for their shift, then I'll have to hurry up before it happened
While the ones guarding the corridors are mostly your normal soldier, I'm willing to bet that this place has more powerful Huntsmen as their guards
As it is, I'll need to hurry up and release the Grimm hybrid before letting them rampage in here, only then could I sneaked out easily, because there won't be anyone watching the outside ground anymore. They'd be too busy dealing with the problem inside this place to notice me
I looked out the window, where I could have a clear view of the scenery outside
This headquarter, it looks more like a fortress than what you would expect from an average skyscraper. Several layers of thick walls with barbwire at the top separated the compound with the world outside, monitored by multiple guard post situated between them. Watchtowers placed between every twist and turn, watching for any movements both in and outside. The walls and defenses alike creating a hexagon-shaped base with the building I'm currently in located in the middle
In other words, I am effectively locked in here without a way of getting out. You'd have a better chance of getting inside there than going outside the place with the ways this building is positioned.
I glanced at a nearby watch, which reads 10:00 o'clock. It's almost midnight, huh?
"Hmm, the moon sure is beautiful tonight" I remarked, gazing out the window with a faraway look in my eyes, before turning back
Between the bloody corridors, my footsteps echoed in the silence space as a chilling gust of wind passed by in the distance
"A fitting time for a walk, don't you think?"
