Have you ever, in your entire life, did something that you thought was badass, only to look at that particular memory later in life and noticed just how much of a dumbass you have been?
Me too. In fact, I'm feeling exactly like that right now
Two silver, red-tinted orbs stared back at me through expressionless eyes, it is Summer Rose- my newly acquired servant
Calling her like that makes me feel uncomfortable, especially when she already has two kids and a husband of her own. Let's just refer to her as Summer, shall we?
Right. As you know from reading the last chapter, Summer and I fought in the town. Summer beat the shit out of me with her silver eye. I got a bullshit-anime-level-up starter pack and turned into a vampire and a half Grimm lord. I then proceed to suck Summer. She then get turned into a lesser vampire and was forced to serve me for eternity
It's actually more epic than that, but whatever
The point is that, I made a mistake by turning Summer into a vampire. I don't know what took over me at that moment, but it would have been better to just knock her unconscious or kill her. The reason?
Because bonding her with me would mean she will have to travel along with my pack everywhere we go. And that could be dangerous
If Ozpin were to see one of his allies disappeared, especially her who have silver eyes, chances are high that he will use anything he have to locate her, since Summer is essential in beating Salem. And then it will be over for us if our identity were exposed because of Summer
To fix this mistake of mine, I've decided to send her back to her family, since she currently have no use to me and I will avoid suspicion by doing so
Of course, her status as a vampire won't change, sadly. All I can do is mentally apologize to her and promised myself to pay her back one day
But to do that, first I have to ensure her devotion toward me, so that she won't spill any information regarding me to Ozpin
"Summer"
She blinked "Yes, my master?"
"....."
She just called me master
A part of me is horrified and embarrassed that such a beautiful woman had just called me that, while another part of me just feel....pleased. As if it's entirely natural for her to refer to me as someone in the superior position
Combine these two parts together, and I'm just plain confused as to whether or not I should tell her to change my title, or out right calling me by name. In the end I decided that it would be too troublesome and leave it at that
Now since Summer has been bonded by my blood as a Vampire, she ought to have an absolute sense of loyalty toward me. While I'm pretty sure that's the case, it never hurt to give it a test
"Do you remember what happened last night?"
Something flashed across her eyes as she lowered her head "Yes. I do, my Master"
Good, it seems that she still retain her memory and not just being brainwashed like those minion vampires I often read about. A good sign, this means my plan can still work
"Why did you try to kill me" I asked, crossing my arm
Her shoulder shook a little, and I can now see the expression on her face. It was a mixture of fear and guilt
"I've... been given a mission to exterminate the Grimm here. One of my friend told me about you, she said that you are an evolved Grimm, one with enough intelligence and power to aid us. I decided to hunt you down and negotiate with you...but the plan failed and I was forced to take action. I didn't know what I was thinking, attacking you like that" All of this came out in a whirlwind of words, one sentences after another, as though confessing to some great sin she'd committed before the judge
You don't really have to feel that way, you know. It's my fault you ended up like this in the first place....
Although I have to wonder who this friend of her is, considering that it's not even a day since I'd come to this village and she already knew about my existence. It proves that I need to be more careful in the future
Shaking my head, I proceed with the questioning
"Do you feel sorry about what you did?"
"I regret it every passing moment I'm with you, my Master"
"Do you want to redeem yourself?"
"Even if I have to kill my family, I'll gladly do it to prove myself to you"
Oooookay, let's stop there woman. Things are starting to go dark right now. I should stop with the questioning and go straight to business
"Loyalty are proven by actions, Summer, not words"
I gestured to the silver knife laid at my feet. Summer moved her gaze to it, having already guessed my intention
"If so, please excuse me"
In a swift motion, she sprang up from her sitting position and reached for the knife. Grasping it in her hand, the woman pointed the blade at her neck, intending to end her own life
In a swifter motion, I stood up from my seat and grabbed Summed's wrists. Twisting myself, I did her a Judo throw over my shoulder. Before she could recover, I rammed my elbow into her throat, making Summer choked.
She is now an undead though, so she doesn't need to breath. Choking is just the remain of her human reflex drilled into her survival instinct when she was still alive, just like breathing. As such, I'm not worried about her in the least
Summer's grip on the knife temporarily loosen, allowing me to pry it from her hand. Standing up, I held it above my head so she wouldn't be able to reach it
"You disappointed me, woman. A pawn is only useful when it's alive. How do you expect to serve me when you're deader than a corpse?"
"I-"
"I have a mission for you, my Rose" I smiled gently, offering her a hand. I'm currently in my human form so it's easier to do a handshake, among many other reasons.
After a moment of hesitation, she accepted my hand as she let me pulled her up. The guilt was still there, but her eyes has lost the fear it has before, replaced by a burning determination
(I swear, if one of you were to make an Undertale reference here, you're gonna have a bad time)
"Command, and I shall follow, Master"
'Oh man, I should have been an actor with how well I pulled that off' I mentally cheered
"It's nothing big. I just need you to return back to your home, to live the life you live like before as if nothing happened until the need arise for me to call upon you. But remember this, under no circumstances were you to tell anybody about me, using any form of communication, dropping hints is also forbidden. Do you got it?"
She nodded
"Although it pains me to be away from Master, I shall complete this mission to the best of my ability and make you proud"
"Good, then be on your way"
Summer bowed to me before she turned around and headed back to the ruined town. She'll most likely catch a Bullhead and head home to her family. Her husband and daughter likely wouldn't even know how she had been changed. By me
Damn, now I'm feeling guilty about basically turning Ruby and Yang's mother into a slave. Let's just hope they won't pull a Sasuke Uchiha on me in the future when they found out about that...
....Nah, they wouldn't. Would they?
*sigh* Future Death Flag marked
Well, there's the silver lining to everything I guess. I've unlocked several useful abilities in the fight with Summer so I didn't regret it more than I should
Right now, I've evolved into a [Half Grimm Lord], whatever that means, I'll just have to ask the other two about it. With the evolution, all of my stats has been doubled, while my skills have been vastly improved
And [Greater Detection] just happens to be included in that list. If, say, before evolution my detection range is somewhere around 20 meters, now it can be said to be over 30 meters, probably around 40 if I can take an accurate guess
And just how did I know that? Well...
"Are you going to keep stalking me like a love stricken schoolgirl, or will you come out and introduce yourself to me, oh friendly stranger?" I asked in a good-humored tone, turning my head to the direction behind me
<><><><><><><><>
Helen sighed behind her cover as the boy's haze met hers. She knew she should have just ignored them and go to sleep, but noooooo~ she just have to be a curious little cat and stick her nose into things that wasn't her business, and look where that brought her?
She would have just ignored them afterward if the boy hadn't spoken up and look specifically in her direction with a knowing smirk. He most likely know she was there from the beginning, so it would be pointless if Helen pretend not to be where he can most likely sense her
"How troublesome..." she sighed as she got up from the branch she's sitting on
<><><><><><><><>
Wooosh
I blinked. One moment I was staring at the girl, the next she was already in front of me
The young girl is wearing a blue winter coat, with light blue hair and a white mask covering her face. On her left side is a sheathed pair of daisho: A Wakizashi and a Katana
The girl didn't say anything, but she opened her mask, revealing a young beautiful girl with gold eyes and pale skin
"You are... a Grimm" The girl remarked as she looked at me
"No shit" I snorted, before remembering that I'm still in my human form 'Wait, how did she-'
"I guess it's kinda obvious, huh?" She looked down with a frown "With the way your negative energy were pouring all over the place, It would be a miracle for someone not to think you're one of us"
So she can sense me by this 'negative energy' which I have no idea what it is. I'm technically in the dark here, and she just keeps mumbling like I already know what it is.
One thing is clear, however. By her use of the word "us" I could also guess she's a Grimm like me
"But you have a human form. It either means that you're a Skinwalker or a very powerful Grimm Lord. Given that you can sense me from such a far distance I'd wager on it being the latter. But still..." and she just keep mumbling like that, apparently puzzled about something
After a while of mumbling to herself, she finally turned to me
"I believe I hadn't introduced myself. Hello, I'm Helena, and I'm a Shoggoth, or a slime Grimm as human would call us. My hobby is sleeping and watching clouds. That's pretty much it"
Huh, that would somewhat explained her ability to transform into human
"Well, Helen, would you kindly tell me why you are listening to our private conversation back then?"
She looked at me with an innocent look in her eye
"It isn't a private conversation if you're doing it in the middle of the forest. And this forest isn't your property, so people couldn't be blamed for accidentally hearing a few words from it"
She has a point
I grinned at her, showing my canine
"I guess we'll need to be more careful next time, huh? Anyway, what were you doing out here all by yourself, little Grimm?"
"I was sleeping"
I raised an eyebrow at her, and she realized she'd been caught lying
"A black cat crossed my path, so I have to take the long route home"
I raised my other eyebrow
"I got lost on the road of life?"
I would have raised another eyebrow if I have it, but I don't. Chuckling, I shook my head and intend to reprimand her, but then I have an idea
"Indeed, the road of life is the most dangerous amongst all road, just one slip and you will spiraled endlessly downward to the deepest pit of depravity there is, to the normal person nothing can be more scary than that"
I grinned. Back when I was a teenager in my world, I would often join wuxia role playing forum on the internet, so you could say I have some experience in making things sound deep when it actually doesn't
Since the girl'd made that statement on her defense, I shall enjoy myself and play along
"But as you walked the road of your life, what awaits you at the end of it is nothing more than your goal, then you will look back at the journey you've made and wondered if this is worth it, if the answer isn' yes then you've just wasted the majority of your life chasing an obsession of yours, a dream that cannot be fulfilled. Many people have gone down this road, and just as many has fallen to their own desires, mistaking it for the goal they're supposed to seek. I can prevent you from that same fate. Tell me, just why do you choose the path that you take?"
I stopped to look at her reaction
Instead of laughing like I expected, the girl looked down, a contemplative look on her face. When she looked up, it was replaced by pure and utter respect for me
"To think that you can respond with such wise words, it seems I have made a mistake by doubting you" she then bowed to me "you are inarguably a Grimm Lord, and to that, I pay respect to you"
Huh?
What kind of bullshit is this?
I don't know what enlightening insight you've just gained from what I've said, but I didn't mean it one bit, seriously, I'm just joking around
I forced out a knowing smile, as if I have knew that all along. Seeing the look on my face, the respect in her eyes grew stronger until her eyes were practically sparkling
Uwahhhh~ I can't handle this. Don't tell me she's just like Alistair in the Sasuga regard, that would be incredibly bad for my brain, and my soul
"Well?" I asked, hoping to change the topic. This snapped Helen out of her thought. When she started speaking again, her attitude toward me take a 180 degree turn from 'I don't give a fuck' to 'my dear good sir', making me a bit startled
"Uhm... The goal that I seek isn't something that I myself want, but something that I must. And it wasn't something I am seeking, it was someone"
"I am looking for the Prince of Pride, (Y/n) Lucifer himself"
Hmm, this guy has the sane name as me huh?
"So what does he look like?" I asked, interested in gaining more information about this Seven Deadly Sin I've heard before from the pair
"I don't know, he didn't have a human form to be honest. The mistress of Pride never allow him out of his castle, but all of us know he's a Beowolf just like her"
A fellow with the same name and the same race as me. Wow, what are the odds of that?
"Do you know where to find him?"
"That's the problem. I don't know where the castle is, and how to reach it. My decision to search for him has been one made in the heat of the moment" here she lowered her face down again
"Hmm, I understand. In that case, would you like to join my pack?"
She looked up in surprise, making me chuckled before explaining
"My pack is currently low on number, and you seems to be strong enough to be one of us. If you accept, we will provide shelter with food for you, while helping you find (Y/n), but in return you'll have to work for me. Is that alright with you?"
"Hmm... I see no problem with that" Helen replied after a moment of thinking
Before I could say anything more, she suddenly prostrate herself to me
"Then I, Helen Belphegor, swear my loyalty to you, and to the pack. In death I shall stand beside you, in battle I shall protect you, and in blood I shall serve you until my last breath. I promise this upon the honor of my forefathers, and to the deepest pit of hell shall I be condemned if I ever were to break this oath of mine"
"And so be it" I said while sweatdropping. There's no need for you to be this dramatic. A simple handshake will suffice
Ding!
[Helen Belphegor] has become a member of your pack!
Your pack's power level has been increased (200 ----> 250)!
"Stand up, Helen. As a member of my pack, everyone is treated as equals. So, please just call me as-"
"I am afraid I can't do that. As someone beneath your station, it is only appropriate to refer to you as nothing more than 'my Lord'" She said while still bowing
This is even more awkward than being called as Boss. I think I would actually prefer that title over this
A nearby bush suddenly started rustling, and Alistair along with Murdoch came out of it, donned in their illusion disguise
"Sorry, boss. We made sure to eat everyone we could find but the Huntsmen sent to kill us have to take some times to dispatch of, but Murdoch and I have just unlocked our human form, and we also managed to-"
She stopped in her track, not at the sight of me standing in my human from, but because of Helen kneeling in front of me, who turned her head to look at my subordinates
"Alistair?"
"Helen! What is the princess of Sloth doing here?!"
"I like meat!"
".....Nani?"
